DR suddenly worrying me about IBS symptoms - please calm me down

I went to the Dr this morning for a 6 week check on my coil. All is fine there. I discussed my IBS symptoms with her because just after the coil was fitted, the following period was agony and my IBS hurt like hell. It had been flaring up a bit before the coil was fitted, but the period really aggravated things. I talked about the pain and other things, like bleeding, which I'm sure when I've worried about this before, they've always said that the IBS was just aggravating my piles. (I'm a mess down there, obv!)

I've had IBS for years - it was officially diagnosed (as much as IBS can be) after a colonoscopy about 8 years ago. I am only 31.

She did mention colitis and diverticulitis but also quizzed me again about my family bowel cancer history (lots of bowel problems in my family, but only incidence of bowel cancer is a great-grandparent). I am now so scared - I haven't mentioned any bowel problems to her since last summer (just after DC2 was born) because it's kind of part of my life. Things are bad at the moment - but I am really stressed and anxious at the moment. I can't stop crying at all kinds of things, so I guess I didn't think too much of my IBS being bad.

Am I an idiot for not doing anything about this? I started to google, which is such a mistake, and I now really, really need to calm down before DD wakes up from her nap.

I don't know what I'm asking for, really - please just help me to calm down.

Do mention the previous endo to the GP. However, some GPs are ignorant when it comes to endo.

Endometriosis can recur; this may well be the cause of all your symptoms now as sometimes bowel involvement happens with endo too. In some women also, endo is misdiagnosed as IBS.

Your GP should refer you to a gynae particularly as you were previously diagnosed with endometriosis.

Ed - actually, I have had endometriosis before. I had a laparoscopy and it layered off. I hadn't thought of that so will definitely mention that to my Dr. Thanks.

I wonder if you might have endometriosis - apparently this can cause bowel symptoms.

It might be worth getting a proper gynae check. they can help you if you have this.

I have fibroids and they started to bleed. In the waiting room. Luckily the loo was free so I dived in there before any harm was done to the floor. I'm sure he went OTT, he could have easily have sent me home with some drugs.

Oh no - why A&E?! Obviously don't feel you have to tell me! But that must have been a bit of a nightmare.

That's OK. Really, she's just being thorough. Mine had me whisked off to A&E on Thursday I hope the new medication helps, it's a nightmare when you're looking around for the loo all the time.

I've just realised I didn't mention the fact that she's ordered blood tests. I didn't mean to drip feed - just forgot!

My mum and DH have been on at me for ages to try and get something done, but whenever I've mentioned since having the colonoscopy, I just get told it's normal for IBS. I feel like such a fool for not making a fuss before. She's given me some other medicine to try, too.

Sounds like your GP is just being thorough, it doesn't mean she suspects anything. Try not to panic, and don't google as it has the ability to turn a cold into the bubonic plague!
