I have had this for about 6 months, if i knock my hand or finger on something, it is bloody excruciating. Really sensitive to pain. It's most bizarre. No broken skin, or anything like that. They are a bit dry, but not visibly dry iyswim.

It hurts ridiculously to knock them, in comparison to the force of the knock.

it sometimes makes me cry!! Can't find anything thru googling so havent gone to doc.

Hi everyone

I get the same symptoms with both my thumbs on the fleshy bits on either side of my thumb by the nails. I only have to catch it on something firm or hard for me to be bought to my knees with excruciating pain that I can only liken to what it must feel like to trap your finger in a door, or have a hammer smash down on your finger.

Im a 53 year old male and healthcare professional of 30 years and have had this for at least 10 years.

I would love someone to tell me what causes this or if it has a name as to be honest this is the only thread Ive come across that actually describes the symptoms I experience.

Can anyone shed any light on this

I wouldn't think to going to my GP because I honestly don't think they would be any wiser.

Hi. Has anyone had a diagnosis or any luck relieving the pain?? I am glad I am not the only one to be honest. Mine is my right middle finger. Its in an area on the right side below my tip but above the knuckle - like only a specific area and a little sensitive on the pad of my finger on the side. If I knock it, or someone (even me) touches that area with a little pressure it causes pain. If I knock it it will literally drop me to the ground sobbing uncontrollably. I have had an xray, everything is fine, had an ultrasound on my wrist, forearm and elbow and that was fine too. I have no lumps or discoloration either. Drs suggest nerve damage but i dont recall any trauma to that area. Sometimes i get random sharp pains (like i am being stabbed) in that finger and the one beside it as well as slight aching, and also can get a burning sensation from the nail bed to the second knuckle. I do get similar burning/aching occasionally in my wrist and forearm also. Would love to know if anyone has had any success!! Sometimes it feels like it is all in my head 😣

Hi, I am a 57 year old male.
I have suffered with exactly the same problem that everyone else has for the past 4 years ,my pain in on the left index finger .The "pain spot" is very well defined I can pin point the spot exactly with a pencil tip. The spot is located on the underside of the finger on the pad side ,it is directly below the finger nail that is furthest from the finger tip on the inside.

I have had this condition of EXTREME PAIN whenever this spot is pressed even lightly, but I almost black out with pain if this spot is give a sharp knock. Cold water or cold air exacerbates this problem tremendously. Warm or even hot water provides some relief.

I have seen many MD's about this over the years and every single one says that the problem is physiological and refuse to do an MRI or ultrasound due to no obvious signs of problem ,no lesion's or decolourizations.
I have been offered nothing really except antidepressants and low dose pain killers.

I decided to do my own research and have found the REAL problem ,
It is apparently not that uncommon but obviously the GP'S of today really don't give a stuff about patients and are only in it for the money.
I however did not give up, but did eventually get it diagnosed by a competent specialist.

The real cause of my problem is a benign tumor called a "glomus tumor" that grows next to a very sensitive nerve that senses and controls temperature.

Have a look at these sites for a better explanation:
www.knowcancer.com/tumor/glomus-tumor/
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1888624/

So don't be put off by carless health professionals that leave you in agony for years, seek out the correct diagnosis and trust your own instincts.
Good luck.
Get well soon.

OMG! I occasionally get this same issue. The first time was several years ago. I slight bumped my right hand against something. I screamed out in pain. It took quite some time for the pain to subside. Afterwards there was a bruise over half of the inside of my palm. For several weeks after this I could barely even touch anything with this hand. If my hand barely touched the edge of something, it would hurt like I had slammed it against something.

This doesn't happen very often. I go months at a time with no problem at all. Now today it is flaring up again. Now it is mainly the right side of the thumb on my right hand.

If someone figures out what this might be, I would definitely like to know too.

It’s 4.30 in the morning I’ve hardly slept because of the pain in my little finger ..... so I come online to see if I can find out what it is ... and I find this post, I could cry !!! It’s not just me ... I’m not going mad !!!

I’ve had this pain for years, mostly the slightest knock ..... actually it doesn’t even have to be a knock it can be a slight brush sometimes ... to the finger causes excruciating pain, pain that takes your breath away and makes you want to cry and cut your finger off !!

It’s only on my right little finger, on the side just above my joint. The thing is it’s started to hurt now, not just after I knock it, like tonight it’s throbbing in tha one area and it’s painful enough to stop me sleeping.

Please please please ........ to any of you that have the same or similar thing, did you ever get it sorted !?!?

I am suffering from all of the same symptoms and I am so happy that I finally found a place where other people have experienced the same thing. I thought I was going crazy. I am going to see a hand doctor tomorrow. Anyone else get a different diagnosis than a glomus tumor?

Hi everyone, I've suffered with this for years and I'm glad I've found this thread. Out of curiosity, does anyone with this extreme pain suffer with very cold hands as well? I have suffered with cold hands for a long time and the doctor has suggested raynauds, so I'm wondering if the 2 systems could be related.

Hi, Good to read the comments, and know that I am not the only one experiencing pain/stinging of the bones in my hands at the slightest knock.

I am going to try taking Thiamine (B1) as suggested by salcollins. Will let you know if it helps i.e. if I can get it during lock down.

So glad I came across this thread. I too have this and have had it for years. It is my middle finger on my left hand. I will be fine and then I may knock it slighly or close a lid and the pain I get is excruciating. It starts in the finger, moves up into my palm and up my arm and can last between 5-25 minutes, I'm in tears and can hardly speak. I put the finger in my mouth, run under warm water but nothing calms it until the 'episode' as I call it calms down. I thought it may be raynaud's syndrome but my finger doesn't go white so I am not sure... But it does get worse in the cold and brings in more 'episodes' when cold. I'm at the end of my tether with it. It would be great to hear what has worked for others to stop this pain once and for all.

Really pleased to have found others with the same issue as myself.
My pain started about 10 weeks ago (I am 62 yrs) - the back of both hands react significantly when just slightly bumped.
I consulted my GP last week. She ran bloods for 'unusual' type conditions. Bloods all came back 'normal'. My GP is 52 yrs old and said, 'I have never heard of this complaint in my whole career'!
I don't suppose anyone has any answers?
