I need a freeware dvd ripper that actually works

can anyone supply me with a link for a freeware dvd ripper that actually works.

I want to rip some of my daughters dvds to avi format then convert to amv so i can play them on an mp4 player.

Tried one link the the files were corrupt, then the next one just could not read dvd to be ripped

You need to work out which file to rip from the DVD: google 'vlc dvd rip' (no quotes) if you can't work out how.
