Drum(?) fuser malfunction with printer - can I fix it myself?

I'm getting flashing lights which the manual suggests is a fuser malfunction. What does this mean?

I went online and have been bamboozled but wondered if anyone could tell me if I can fix this myself or not. I have a Brother HL 1450 laser b/w printer.

If not how much should it cost to get fixed?
