iPhone 4S battery issues

Basically I'm wondering if there is any way to fix this or if my battery has had it...

My phone loses charge very quickly. An hour of solid texting or web browsing can easily drain 40-50% of my battery.

Sometimes I will have 27%, 33%, 17% (basically a random low percentage but you'd still expect to get some use of it) and it will suddenly shut off as if the battery had run out & I can't turn it on without plugging it in.

Also, a new thing happened today. Said 8% plugged it in and it immediately jumped to 28%.

Is there any hope? Is it worth going to the Genius Bar at a store? My iPhone 4S is 2 years 3 months old. I can't afford a new smart phone & other than a few other small but irritating flakes the phone works fine.

Any advice would really be appreciated.

Ok, just ordered a replacement battery kit and a back glass replacement (mine is cracked) all for just over £7. FINGERS CROSSED I DON'T RUIN MY PHONE!

FlatFace I did turn those things off - after iOS 7 I read an article about saving battery life as I did notice my battery got worse. Maybe this will help the others. I've found a kit on amazon for £5. Seems worth it but I'm so worried I'll wreck my phone!

I was going to ask if this started after the iOS 7 update.

There are a couple of things that can drain your battery really quickly. First and most importantly, Background App Refresh. This is a new feature in iOS 7. It's extremely battery-heavy and its default mode is ON. Look for it in Settings -> General tab. Turn that off. Secondly, do you use Bluetooth? Look at the top right beside the battery icon. If you don't use any other Bluetooth enabled device, go to Settings and turn that off. I found mine had switched itself on after the update.

Try those two fixes for a few days and see how it goes?

Same with mine - did anyone else's only start doing this after doing the system updates to ios7? I think it's linked but apparently apple don't...

Ah interesting. My 4s has been doing this intermittently for a while. Glad it's not just me...

I did wonder about a new battery but apple wants to charge an arm & a leg. I'm always so scared of these DIY fixes and men on the market who will do the fixes for a tenner or what not. I do have a slight crack on the back on my phone which I was considering a DIY fix for but chickened out! Might go to apple to see what they say. If it's too pricy maybe I'll try the DIY option.

Hi, I changed the battery in my iphone 4s!... When i say i mean i got my 10 year old son to do it as it was a was a little fiddly. Battery cost £4.50 off ebay with the tools. There are videos on youtube of how to do it. The screws are tiny so be careful not to lose them!
