Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. the S3 Mini?

Yep, it's another of those 'what phone shall I get?' threads!

Anyone got much experience of the Samsung Galaxy S3 MINI ?

I'm at the end of my contract - I'm on, and want to stay with Orange. I have a Google Nexus S currently (Samsung build), which I'm happy with, but it's old and tired! I'd be quite keen to stay on Android.

I want to reduce my monthly bill and get a new phone... I'm being offered what seems like a good deal on the S3 Mini... anyone have any opinions on it? NB I'm probably a light smartphone user, really! I want it for calls, lots of texts, and some apps and photos. I don't really do social media or watch vids, and I never game. I have separate iPod. The camera on it is 5MP, which is what I have now on phone.

My dilemma is greed, really - is it worth paying more for the S3? WOuld it be worth hanging on for the S4 to come out, so the S3 deals are even cheaper? Any idea when this will be?

Sorry for essay...

Hazel dd came back from Uni yesterday, she has an iphone 5, she thinks the S3 mini is great, there's a feature where you can tell it to send a quick txt just by voice and stuff...... I'm still learning.

I got it for 14 pounds a month 300 minutes and 500 txts, unlimited internet. I'm liking it so far.

:)

Awkward to guess what your monthly bill is, so suggestions might go higher...

Have seen some people were pre-ordering the Galaxy S4 so it might not be too far around the corner... network charges for the S3 seem to range from about 21.50 to 37 quid at the moment depending on the deals out there... so how much lower (if any) the lowest will go is anyone's guess!

I had the original Galaxy before too and find the keyboard on the mini tiny. But the S3 was just too big.

I don't think you have Hazel - I don't know how they've done it but the S3 mini is the same size as my old S1 but the features are just titchy.

My ultimate deciding factor was the price - the mini cost me nowt, whereas the S3 would have been nigh on £200!

I must have giant hands then, as I finally went for a play with the S3 mini, the S3, and the Note... and thought the Mini very small. Even though it's the same as the phone I have now! The S3 I loved. The Note I liked, but wont actually use any of the features, so the S3 I think it is for me.

Monty - let me know if you discover any unusual tricks or shortcuts? I'm the only one here with an S3 mini.

I got a cover from amazon - the postage cost more than the item did!

Only criticism I have of the phone is that the keyboard is a little faffier than I'm used to fat finger syndrome

I'm a big fan of the Galaxy phones though - my last one was virtually bomb-proof.

Tapir great news, I just got one yesterday.

My first criticism is that I hold it where the 'buttons' to switch volume, lock etc are exactly where I would hold a phone normally.

Anyway, I've ordered a nice cover today and hope that will help that little complaint. :)

I've got the S3 mini, the S3 was a little too large for me.

I went from the original galaxy s, so having a camera with a flash is a vast improvement - on the whole I really like it.

Not FBI, meant FB!

I got the S3 mini in December because I thought the S3 was too big. I like it a lot but am a bit disappointed by the camera. otherwise it's a great phone, great size, I use it for emails/FBI/mumsnetting etc.

A little niggle is that I can't silence the start up tone, although I silence all other tones.

Do you find the S3 big? Can you text one handed, or do you need two hands?

WOuld you recommend it?

Honestly, I am sure I spent longer buying my last phone than I did my last car! Confused
