One of my lodgers has rearranged the routers in MY house (see previous thread) and neither I nor my other lodger could get connected. I have fiddled with my laptop and with the help of a lovely MNetter i have now got connection. The other lodge rnow keeps getting logged off or her connection is really really slow.

I dont know what to do. I have provided internet connection and the signal is coming into the house but she keeps asking me what she can do.

I have no clue how to fix this. WWYD?

Thank you for your replies. I unplugged everything and started again . Plugged one router in and got rid of other one. Yay ! It works and we all have connection .

I think, for one thing, you need to throw fiddling lodger's router off the network - unless set up by someone who actually knows what they're doing, a two router setup will almost always be worse than a single router one. Start over. Take the whole thing out, then set up your router, make sure the wireless works, and set the encryption and router passwords so only you have access to the router settings. Your lodgers get wifi passwords (so they can connect and use it) but not the router password so they can't fiddle with it.

Might be tricky if you're not particularly savvy about this stuff though - I'm sure we can talk you through it if you want to go that route!

Sorry, not clear if you have one or two routers there ?

I found a thread about router password (so was it about the password to login to control panel for the router, or the encryption key which had been messed with - I assume the latter) and will that lodger be back some day and mess with it again ?

For the lodger with intermittent connection, is it a wireless signal strength problem, do you think ? Have you tried your laptop from where she tries to connect ?
