Do you decide what's for dinner or do you let your family decide?

A friend of mine tells me that she goes around her family asking what they would like for dinner and then sometimes/often ends up cooking different things for each member of the family. I never ever ask! I do take into consideration what my lot like, and that excludes a lot of stuff as dh (not dd's!) is such a picky eater, but otherwise it's entirely my call. What about everybody else?

here is where I get it from.

It's an american one - so some of the 'terms' are different, and a few items aren't available in the UK (or at least not in Tesco ) but I've found alternatives for almost everything (apart from Shredded potatoe )

They get a choice....................from that weeks 'menu' - I subscribe to a menumailer service which sends me 6 different recipes each weeks I add an extra 'easy' or 'popular' one (bangers and mash, pizza, burgers etc etc) in and that's the weeks menu - then DH can decide which one he wants the following day (as the meat needs defrosting LOL)

I sometimes will say "do you want X or Y?". But I am not a short-order cook! What I serve, is what's for dinner.

I do the cooking so I decide majority of the time. DD (2y 11m) gets a choice of her high tea/snack.

I will sometimes ask - but based on what I fancy cooking.

But everyone has to eat the same!

I reckon if I've given them a little bit of choice over what they eat, then they cannot decline to eat it
