Chicken Safety Question!!

domestickler · 19/08/2006 12:30

We had a power cut in a storm yesterday. Power (and therefore fridge) was off for 2 hours)

Is the chicken that I wanted to use for tea tonight safe to eat?

do a search on the net on the fridge you have, most models have a safe store for anything upto 16hrs if the power goes off, we had a power cut last week but it was only for half hour, pain in the arse tho

Just make sure you cook it very well. Most harmfull bacteria don't survive high heat.

I have just smothered it in honey and mustard ready to cook tonight and not sure if I was imagining a slight smell

i reckon it'd stay pretty cool, as if it had been in a coolbag for a couple of hours. you'd still use it if it had been in a coolbag , wouldn't you? also, if you do a long trip to the supermarket, it could be out of the fridge altogether for an hour or so, wouldn't it?

Did you open the fridge?? I would have said there was enough cold air in the fridge for it to be fine tbh
