I wrote a recipe pamphlet for my Gran when she got her slow cooker. Her one is the teeny one from Lakeland. You can multiply quantities to suit. See below:
Slow Cooker Instructions for Gran
Use the LOW setting and cook everything for 6 to 8 hours. Don?t keep lifting the lid for a lookie as it will lose heat and not cook properly.
It can be used on HIGH too, but only cook for 4 hours if you are using the high setting. Meat won?t be quite as tender this way but it will still be fine and shouldn?t be tough.
My suggestion is to prepare your meal first thing and switch the slow cooker on in the morning, using the LOW setting, that way by suppertime it will be ready for you. If you forget to put it on in the morning put it on at lunchtime and use the HIGH setting it will still be ready for teatime.
Always have the lid on while cooking.
Whatever recipe you use, the moisture won?t be lost so the consistency will be similar at the end of cooking as it was at the start. That means if your mince is watery at the start it will be watery at the finish. In general you need to use less water than cooking on the hob. If when you?ve finished cooking and the sauce looks as if it needs reduced, switch to HIGH and leave the lid off for half an hour.
I?ve included potatoes in most recipes to make it a complete meal, but you can leave them out if you want.
Ingredients must be defrosted, other than small veg don?t use frozen food.
REMEMBER TO SWITCH IT OFF WHEN FINISHED
Soup
Add all your usual soup ingredients, and stock and cook on HIGH for 4 hours or LOW for 6-8 hours.
Remember the consistency will be the same at the finish as the start so you need less water than if you were cooking on the hob.

Roast Gammon
This is really fine, Gran
Small roll of gammon
Dark brown sugar, say about 10 heaped teaspoons worth
Put the gammon in the slow cooker
Spoon the sugar on to the top of the gammon
Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours. This recipe does not work on high.
When finished lift the gammon out with a fork. When the juice at the bottom has cooled, just throw it away (it is no use for gravy)
Gammon cooked in Cider
(affa fine too )
Small roll of gammon
Tin of cider
Put the gammon in the slow cooker
Pour the cider over
Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook for 6-8 hours on LOW
The juice can be used for gravy if you wish.
Meat Joints
Pretty much any cut of meat or chicken can be used.
I?ve done chicken, turkey, pork, gammon, beef and they?ve all been affa fine.
Slow cooking makes it really tender
Place joint in slow cooker either by itself or on a bed of carrots.
Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours
When you take the joint/carrots out there will be juice at the bottom of the pot. Add your stock cube/gravy granules to make a gravy.
BBQ Ribs
Pork Ribs
Heinz BBQ Sauce
Place ribs in cooker
Squirt over some BBQ sauce
Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours
Rice Pudding
(I?ve not done this, go the recipe online, let me know if it?s fine)
4 oz pudding rice
1½ pints of milk (or use part evaporated/part normal milk if you prefer)
Butter
2 tablespoons of sugar
Cinnamon, sultanas etc. if you wish
Rub the butter all over the inside of the pot
Add the rice, milk and sugar and stir well
Cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours or LOW for 5 hours
Dollop of jam on top when it?s done if you want!
I didn?t add herbs, spices and seasoning to the recipes, you know which ones you like and which ones to use.
Generally veg cooks better at the bottom of the pot, but if you have it on LOW all day, it?ll be fine.
That lot will get you started, you can try other things you like and give me some of your recipes!
