I chucked out the microwave

Last week. I dont miss it yet. But will I?

We mainly used it for reheating. But a saucepan does the same job.

Does anyone really use theirs a lot? If so, what for?

We'd have to eat the mince beef (er ... horsemeat?) frozen, but otherwise, I would love to reclaim that counter space to store more useful thing. Like croissants.

I forgot the most important job our microwavw does: heating up the grain/cherry stone animals the dc have for their beds (helps well against leg pains)

I use it all the time to make porridge oats for breakfasts. It does a good job and saves on having to wash pots. Also use it for defrosting meats and reheating food. Once again, saves on having to wash pans and pots (when reheating food). I would miss it if I had to go without it, I'm sure.

I wouldn't be without mine. I use it for:
-Heating up milk for ds or for my coffee
-making bechamel sauce
-making cheese sauce
-making custard
-making sponge for trifle
-cooking veg (almost never di this on hob any more)
-softening butter for baking
-making porrige
-poaching fish for kedgeree
-heating up anything that needs it eg beans, tortillas, etc
-melting chocolate
-cooking perfect every time rice
-defrosting anything

Probably loads more that I can't think of right now.
I think it is one of the most useful pieces of equipment in my kitchen.
I particularly love that it cuts down on washing up as you can heat and serve in same bowl.

Theres not one thing here that I need it for! So thats that decision made. No microwave to buy :)

I prefer beans cooked on the hob, I melted choc with a double boiler even when the microwave was there. And use the kettle and a jug for baby bottles.

I might buy a baby food warmer for weaning. They are around £10 on gumtree.

We dont have a freezer either so I suppose that cuts out a huge area of need.

I heat up baby milk. I cook fish mostly. I heat up kids dinners as few secs is all needed really. I cook cats fish. Part cook baked spuds.

I'd rather chuck out steamer /mixer/coffee machine!

I use the microwave quite a bit, but I have no oven. I have a microwave, four gas rings, and a slow cooker (and a Cobb oven) - I think if we had a working oven, I wouldn't use the microwave as much, but it is very convienient.
Even my 6 year old can use it too, for simple snacks and suchlike, it lets him feel all "grown up and self sufficient" and he likes that.

I didn't have one until about a month ago. Now I have one that sits looking huge and shiny on the worktop and never gets used. I really don't know what made me buy it

Use mine daily.

Oats so simple porridge in the morning, don't have time for saucepan with a 7 ,4 and 11 month old.
Hot chocolate
Scrambled eggs (much nicer than the hob)
Reheating left over food from day before
Etc etc.
I could get by without it but I'd rather have one.

I use mine to
A) sterilise bottles
B) no washing up lazy dinners (soup in a box/innocent vegetable pots)
C) safer cooking around dc (eg easy peas etc)
D) reheating yesterdays leftovers for lunch

I recently bought a microwave after years of refusing to buy one; bought it because it really saves on heating/reheating/defrosting / energy bills. Makes so much sense,

We have never had one, heat meals in a pan or in the oven in a big Pyrex or ceramic dish with a lid (Can fit a families worth in there). I use the Avent bottle warmer with their little pots to heat baby food and bottles or sit in hot water in a bowl/mug.

We don't have one. The last time lived in a house with one was over ten years ago. It's not an item that's missed at all

Ours blew up a few weeks ago and we haven't replaced it. So far I only miss it for reheating a cold cuppa!

I use it for heating milk and warming up the children's bedtime toys. DH uses it to warm his dinner when he is late home. That is all.

I make my morning porridge in mine. I don't have to pay any attention to it while it's cooking. I just have the one dirty bowl instead of a dirty pan with milk burnt on it, a dirty hob, where the milk boiled over while I was trying to do 3 other things at once plus the same dirty bowl.

I also make hot chocolate (same business re washing up), reheat things, cook some veg... I wouldn't be without it.

And we really missed it at Christmas when it was our turn to do Christmas this year and we noticed the pudding was x mins in microwave (very quick) or 3hrs being steamed!
