Help me choose a food processor

My hand blender/chopper is very close to death so I need to get a replacement. I want something a bit bigger/better, but still want it to fit in the cupboard & don't really want to spend oodles of cash.

The kind of things I use it for are, blending cheesecake, soup & dips, chopping up falafel ingredients, whisking pancake batter. I would like to be able to mix up a cake. I have no desire to make bread.

The things I like about the little hand blender are it's size & that it comes with a small & large beakers so I can do tiddly amounts as well as blend a batch of soup. I don't like the fact it's gutless & that when I put a load of ingredients (e.g. For falafel) in the large beaker they don't get mixed up properly (stuff gets stuck at the bottom)

Any suggestions? Ideas of which brands to go for/avoid would be good too!

cog - so stuff always gets stuck at the bottom of food processors? I had assumed it was just because mine was crap!!

I've got a Kenwood which has a base with interchangeable food pro and blender.
Pretty good,does the job but its a blighter for getting the bowl off because theres nothing to hold when you twist.Have to hold the on/off knob which I'm sure doesn't do it any good.

Unless you've got hands like shovels

I've always had good results with the mini-processor attachment. You do have to push things down from the sides to make sure they all get chopped properly - but that's true with any size processor really. And I find it works best if I do things in little batches.

cog I have the same type of hand held thing as the Braun you linked to, don't you find that only the stuff at the bottom of the container gets mixed/chopped? Mine is about 5yrs old, perhaps they have got better?

I have a Braun Multiquick hand-blender/small food processor similar to the one shown. Of your list I'd use the hand-blender for soups & dips and pancake batter. The small food processor can cope with chopping felafel ingredients or whizzing up the chickpeas for hummus. For cakes I have a small hand-held food mixer rather like this one. The beaters detach and it takes up no room in the cupboard. For large scale processing jobs like meatloaf, pizza dough and so forth I have a Magimix.
