Bought some snails a few days ago who have settled in nicely (3 assasins & 4 tigers) and just been to the shop again and got 6 guppies (2 male, 4 female). DD is very excited, but has a couple of questions:

  1. How often do we feed them in our 180L tank?
  2. Do you need to defrost frozen food before giving it?
  3. The man in the shop said one might be pregnant so we bought a birthing box thingy. How do we know when she is likely to give birth so we can get her in there?

  1. Feed them what they will eat in 3 mins and then scoop out the rest, once a day is enough.
  2. yes you do need to defrost it, I just stick it in a jar in a bit of water from the tank.
  3. Female guppies are perpetually pregnant! And if you've got males as well then you'll definitely end up with babies. I'd be tempted not to bother with the breeding trap, if you save all the babies then you'll very quickly have more guppies than you know what to do with and they are pretty hard to rehome. Did the guy in the shop say he would take any of the babies?

Thanks EauRouge

Didn't even think to ask if he would take any babies - was thinking with such a big tank it would take an awfully large amount of babies before they became too much for us! Will try out of the trap first then & see how it goes.

You will notice if female is pregnant, she will have a huge unerneath I would suggest putting her in the beeding net if you see her pregnant, chances are you won't see the babies until it is too late and they can get sucked into the filter or eaten by the other fish.
