Does anyone like Carry On films? [guilty emoticon]

Saw a TV programme this morning re the Queen, and the Royal Yacht Britannia. These guys that had worked there for xxxx years said they had watched films with the Royal Family in the yacht's improvised cinema.

Chap was asked for an example of a film he had seen with the Royal Family and named "Carry on up the Khyber." He then went on to relate at length what it was about. Grin

Well I am a feminist. No, I AM! But I was delighted. I love Carry on up the Khyber. And a lot of the others. But not all! Some of them are crap.

Any one else. Or am I a bit plastered?

I think the films are great generally, but as already said upthread, some are better than others.

was on last weekend; one of my favourites.

Has anyone heard anything about a new Carry On film being made? All I know is that it might be called 'Carry On Again' and it's due out in 2017. Perhaps with Sheridan Smith??

I was brought up on them, as was my dd. Love watching them when I'm feeling stressed or down. Also on the buses. I am happy to admit it!

That's just it though, you can't look at pop culture or high art for that matter, from so long ago, through the lens of 21st century political correctness and get all indignant. Different time - different planet ..

As my name may suggest, I'm hugely enjoying reruns of Round The Horne at the moment on the Radio iPlayer app. Now they really have aged well.

Agree that Carry on Cabby is rather sweet.

I like elements of COF's some of the actors were funny. Kenneth Williams in particular. But I'd rather eat sand than sit through one now!

WC Boggs and Sons
Sir Sidney and Lady Ruff-Diamond ('I have hidden fires Sidney' 'Yes, but now your bung full of clinker') & the Khazi of Kalabar
Dr Nookie
Els Bells

Most of the later ones were just smut, but the earlier ones were top quality innuendo.
They're so non-PC we can't believe we're laughing at them sometimes Grin

Absolutely loved them as a child. Love Sid James laugh, Frankie Howard's pained noises and faces, all the innuendo loved it. Carry on Screaming was my favourite. And Carry on Camping.

Love them too. Especially At your Convenience, Camping, Henry and Matron. We watched them as kids and most of the innuendo went over our heads.

Some are better than others and I love them!

One which I always watch if I can is Carry on Cabby, as well as being a great comedy it has sad moments for Hattie and of course the whole issue of girls being as good as the guys! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carry_On_Cabby

When they go to Els Bells in Spain Grin DH and I have given many a grim town that moniker!

Has anyone else seen San Ferry Ann? Few similar castmembers, silent film about catching the ferry to France. Hilarious.

CO Sergeant is a great film - quite bittersweet in places. The ones from the 70s are mostly awful. But I love all the others, especially Khyber, Camel and Regardless.

LOVE LOVE LOVE carry on films!! Never fail to cheer me up - an early favourite is CO Constable, CO Nurse and CO Cabby - Hattie Jaques is magnificent in that one. CO Abroad and Convenience are also particular favourites.

I discovered Round the Horne and beyond our Ken on radio iplayer - they are sheer genius- so if you like CO humour, recommend these for you

I like them, though some are pretty dire. I love Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques and that little bald guy with glasses. Carry on Screaming, and that one where they are "Brits Abroad", in a Spanish hotel are the best.
I love Sid James laugh

I adore the Carry On films. I was given a book years ago which told you about each film and it was quite opening as there were a few bits of gossip about the various actors and the filming. For example in CO Camping where Babs Windsor is doing the chest exercises and her bra comes off (hooked up to a fishing wire and then yanked) Hattie Jaques grabs her arms to drag her off but grabs so firmly Barbara W's hand comes off her boob. This wasn't meant to happen but because the directors were so tight for time they used it and didn't shoot again.

Oh and the grass they are standing on was actually mud spray painted green as they filmed in winter!

I love these little nuggets of information.

Oh and the foreword to the book was written by Phil Collins from Genesis - fame. He loves a bit of Carry On!

Carry on don't lose your head is my favourite.
Ds loves them too (8yo). He watched Carry on camping at Christmas and was most put out they never got to the nudist camp site. Grin
He likes carry on Sergeant and teacher best.

Harry H Corbett was only in Screaming, and Phil Silvers only in Follow That Camel, because Sid James was too ill each time.
