The curious Case of Benjamin Button, what a...............

...load of old cobblers.

I sat through three hours of that nonsense and I have only myself to blame.

Benjamin went from looking like a wizened little cauliflower to looking like, well, Brad Pitt, but he was consistently dull throughout. What was the point of it? Was it supposed to be a touching love story?

I feel untouched.

It is a very GOOD film.
Long yes but worth it.
Well made.
Well acted.
Thought provoking and moving.

Well I'm resurrecting this thread that I commented on 3.5y ago to say I watched the film again today & I still love it.

So there.

Thanks, squoosh, moving it now. Smile

I loved it. Beautiful film. Actually one of my favourites.

I'm confused by people hating it, but then I concur that's life and the polarity of personal preference. I'm stunned, for example, that anyone enjoyed Titanic and yet people rave and weep buckets over that dross. Now there's two hours of my life I won't get back....

If it saves another poor soul from sitting through this drivel I'm more than happy!

Hi squoosh,

Would you be happy for us to move this great thread over to our Films topic? That way we can keep it forever! Grin

Grin Squoosh. So the film basically borrows the name and concept of ageing backwards and completely reinvents everything else. Figures, I suppose. Love definitely doesn't conquer all in the story. BB is just considered a nuisance by his parents when he's an old man-baby, and later by his son, who ends up being his father as he regresses to infancy.

'the female love interest in the story is into older men, marries the rich young BB only because she thinks he's his own uncle, and he leaves her because she ages normally and he no longer finds her attractive! And when he gets 'younger' he ends up living with his adult son by her, who makes him call him 'Uncle', and later, when he's an old man who looks like a toddler, he goes to kindergarten with his own grandchild.'

'And I bet Cate Blanchett's character isn't called Hildegarde in the film.'

None of that happened in the film! She marries Brad Pitt because she loves him SO much and he then leaves her (and their daughter) because he loves them SO much and can't put them through the pain of being stuck with him. But it's okay because Cate Blanchett finds him in the end and looks after him till he turns into a baby and pops his clogs.

And she was called Daisy which I think is as far as you can get from Hildegarde!

I've not seen it but my male friends loved it. They refer to our cat,who seems to be aging backwards as poppy button.

.... and don't start talking about allegorical not literal.

That's just an excuse for a rubbish story!

What was that film with boy and the tiger in the boat? Life of Pi.

I watched the trailers, knew it was going to be rubbish apart from 'the amazing special CGI 3D' which apparently was like watching a big screen TV through a dirty window.

Lets face it the tiger would eat the boy in real life. Film ends.

Nonsense on stilts. Emperor with no clothes.

Oh I thought it was fab. I broke my heart crying when he was born and he had all complications of an older person. It made me think how heart breaking that would be. It's horses for courses like everything but I fail to see how it couldn't touch even the hardest of hearts

If you liked Lost In Translation, have you seen The Ramen Girl? It's on UKnetflix. More of a storyline to it, but similar. I quite enjoyed that.

I loved it and the whole premise of it.

Lost in translation on the other hand, too understated for me.

Loved avatar too though!

I actually like Lost in Translation. Partly Bill Murray, partly I like what it looks like, partly I like how sharply-drawn the minor characters, like Scarlett Johanssen's character's husband, and the lounge singer and the awful action movie starlet, are. And I'm no massive fan of SJ in general, but I think her performance works, because her character is young and vapid and aimless.

The F Scott Fitzgerald short story that the film of Benjamin Button is based on is really dark, so I'm sure (I haven't seen the film) they must have taken massive liberties with the storyline.

It's about 20 years since I read it, but the female love interest in the story is into older men, marries the rich young BB only because she thinks he's his own uncle, and he leaves her because she ages normally and he no longer finds her attractive! And when he gets 'younger' he ends up living with his adult son by her, who makes him call him 'Uncle', and later, when he's an old man who looks like a toddler, he goes to kindergarten with his own grandchild.

I can't imagine someone making a Hollywood blockbuster with two big stars which is that cynical and grim. And I bet Cate Blanchett's character isn't called Hildegarde in the film. Grin

I am a big F Scott Fitzgerald fan and love the story- although they took some enormous liberties with it; I also enjoyed the film and sobbed like a baby

I also loved lost in translation

CadleCrap....totally agree

I have a small issue with seeing things through...But Benjamin Button and Lost In Translation ....it was just noise and nonsense for the sake of it, and absolutely no discernable plot.
Also snapped 28 Weeks Later off....Utter.Shite.
Oh and christ....Burn After Reading ...snoresvilleeeeeeee!

I like to think they might get better, but no.

I think I have tried to watch Benjamin Button twice....dd wanted to watch it, but nothing on earth would induce me to try the others again.

I don't think I've managed to sit through the entire film Avatar. Yawnfest.

I liked Lost In Translation.

Has anyone seen 'Locke'? It sounds boring as hell - one guy, in a car making phone calls, but I was riveted.
