Hi mumsnetters,

I wonder if any of you could help?
I've been on Cerazette for nearly 2 years. Everything's been great on it; light periods, easy weight management, normal moods, no breast pain etc. However, in the last 5 months everything's changed my boobs have grown and are in agony each month, I'm bleeding every 2 weeks for a week at a time, and I'm feeling elation and extreme happiness followed up extreme anxiety and feelings of lethargy/miserable and lack of confidence. It's shit!
Has anyone else ever experienced such a dramatic change in side affects after a few years on this pill? I'm shocked as it seemed like the perfect pill for the first year or so! Sad
Thanks for your help xx

I ended up going for sterilization, i think that as my body got older it just didnt like hormonal contraception.

I've been on it for a few years and I now have a very light period regular as clockwork. Lasts at most 48 hours it's great.

Am now off cerazette for a week and a half, and can now finally say I feel good, no more gnawing depression, and the awful sickness has finally stopped and have had my first good nights sleep in weeks, I will never touch this pill again, anyone else in this boat, just hang in there it will get better.

In same boat as Norton here. 41, put on cerazette 5 weeks ago and haven't stopped feeling ill since. I'm on my second 'period' in 2 weeks and totally flooding, feel sick a lot of the time and have more or less constant diarrhea. I can't handle the bleeding as I have a prolapse that I'm waiting on being able to have surgery for and I can't use tampons. This pill seems a real 'marmite' one from what I've read. You either have no side effects or horrendous ones. I'm going back to docs this week to ask for a different mini pill to see if that will help but worried that they'll all be as bad as cerazette. Docs won't prescribe combined pill for me as family history of thrombosis.

You can stay on the combined pill until you are 50, as long as your BP is good, and you do not smoke or have migraines.

I got taken off at 49 because they had changed the 'rules' on migraines and it was horrible. Sad I found it very useful for dealing with perimenopausal symptoms and have had to deal with this since coming off.

I'm glad I've found this link. I'm 42 and my GP put me on Cerazette 8 weeks ago. Since then I've had a constant period (perhaps 2 days with no bleeding). I am so fed up!!

I never had a problem on the combined pill but the GP has noticed my age (and mentions it every time I see him) and has put me on the mini-pill.

For the first few weeks I bled heavily, constantly. Now, it's a slight bleed every day. I first went on the pill to stop heavy periods and period pains - I've never, ever experienced anything as bad as this.

I've got a smear and scan at the end of this week. I'm starting to get worried as I'm now bleeding after sex too.

It's a total passion killer to get dressed nicely, go out and worry all night if you're going to start bleeding (and how heavily??). My partner is very understanding but I'm totally naffed off. We go for days out and I have to take pads and tampons 'just in case'. I can't relax and am constantly having to check if I'm bleeding.

I've stopped taking Cerazette today....I've totally, completely and utterly had enough. Have never felt so miserable in my life.

I'm in my seventh year of it, and it's always been fine. It's been an absolute dream for me, and I love it. I'm sorry!

I have had similar problems to be honest, was fine for the first few months but recently i have put on over a stone and have gained awful stretch marks all up both of my legs and sides, i eat healthy and exercise most days at the gym, just can't seem to shit the weight at all ): seriously considering other pills at the moment as its making me very lethargic and grumpy and like you say all this has an effect on confidence.

NW3moody, maybe ask your doctor if there are another other pills you can have, i have never had a problem with the period side of things, sounds frustrating for you to be bleeding every two weeks ):
