Help - Brownie badges on sash

Is there a standard order for sewing them onto the sash ? Should I leave space for future ones to slot in ? On the website there is lovely diagram for Cubs/Scouts but very vague for Brownies/Guides. They don't wear their sashes often so have got away with it thus far but have an outing next weekend.

Hula- sounds good, although Snowy Owl is hoping to get me in to do the science badge with the pack, is there more than one?

Madbad - we have a brilliant former guider, now in the Trefoil Guild who is enormously knowledgable about outdoor and nature stuff - we called on her to do the stargazer stuff and she comes on nature walks and so on with us. I would be lost without her.
Science Investigator I did myself - I have a few science books like Crisp Packet Fireworks which are excellent for good experiments.
We did Balloon Rockets, the Red Cabbage PH indicator thing, we made pretend Lava Lamps with vit C tablets and did the Mentos Coke volcano and the celery stick and food colouring experiment.
I use the guiding.co.uk site a lot for ideas as well.

I just wondered whether there was some source of information and resources for some of the more knowledge-based badges. The stuff in the Adventure pack doesn't cover them all, I think.

You can get a lot of help online. There are some good Facebook groups for guiders.

I think there is also a thread here on Mumsnet where you can ask advice.

LadyGlencora - Where/how do you get the back-up to do these badges (thinking of ones like Stargazer which require some knowledge/expertise)?

I do the Science Investigator badge every two years with my older Brownies. It is a real eye opener to see some of the Brownies who have never struck a match before.

When I was doing my warrant, I put this down as evidence on the clause of how I developed at Brownie's self-confidence.

We've only had a County Jamboree so far that has been 'big'. Normally, we just have district events, not even division.

However, we have lots planned for the Centenary, and there are loads of special badges.

I tried the fabric glue though and it wwrecked DD's sash! I ended up having to peel them off, buying a new sash and sewing them onto that.

sash is horrendous. After trying the wondaweb approach I now use fabric glue!

AMS - did you do any big camps - I got my camp blanket for a big week-long camp at Sherbourne Castle - 10 year event, with a big performance at the end. Needed the blanket to wrap up in in the evening.

Wow, that is a lot in one term, LadyGlen.

We are doing Environment and Hostess this term. In addition, DD gained two other badges on a camp (one that she already had, but there you go).

DD2 does sew on her own badges now, as she has done the Brownie Skills badge! But the sash really is a bugger to sew on to - the old dresses were easier and the badges were much smaller too.

I didn't have a camp blanket when I was a Guide. Not sure if they existed or if I just somehow missed out.

All I know is for my own DD is that her last year of Brownie badges are not going on that gaberdene sash!

Couldn't an enterprising Pack have upcoming candidates for the Sewing badge sew on other Brownies' badges in return for a small donation to Pack funds?

DD got the badge book when she enrolled. You can buy it from the girlguiding shops or online though, and all the badges are listed and detailed on the Brownie website.

There are lots that can be dne at home.

Some need qualified teachers/instructors to sign them off, such as swimming and dancing.

got all this to come - DD1 gets invested on Tues, thankfully my mum is visiting and she can do the first lot - Yeah!

Since September we have done Friend to Animals, Hostess, Entertainer, Artist, Science Investigator and Stargazer as a unit. But we don't usually do SO many in a term. We do a lot more than some units I know, but it just so happened that these particular badges worked in with the stuff our Brownies wanted to do this term.
