Is anyone training for a marathon?

I'm training for a marathon in July, got a couple of halves coming up too.

Anyone else? It's my first so would love to get any tips?

I've just signed up for the Paris marathon next year! I've done a half and 10 mile runs but never anything so far before! I do interval training and a couple of easy short runs per week so hoping I'll be OK come April!

I'm always tempted when the ballot comes around - the first time I entered it, I was really disappointed. But I think I've secretly been relieved each time I've been oofed after that one!

@AuntieStella

Just wandering by to send positive thoughts to all those with autumn marathons.

Is it true that the London ballot for 2022 will be opening on Sunday?

Yes it is, closes on the 8th.

I'm going to enter in case there's a place up for grabs with my club - you have to enter the ballot to be eligible.

@FellRunner94 it's at Bedford autodrome. Both the half and the full.

This will be my first duathlon. I only got a bike in March. Swimming is my nemesis. I just can't get into it. So duathlon only for me 😂

@Chesneyhawkes1 Oooh which one are you doing in October?

Duathlon sounds good, my goal is a Triathlon soon but need to get over my aversion of the bike…

I have one in October. Will be my first as my others were all cancelled.

Got a half next month. And a duathlon this month.

Oh Howgills! That's a fierce race. I usually do the half with a few friends, but lockdown... the first time we did it has gone down in legend in our group - we had no idea it was a 'mountain' race until we turned up on the day...

Highlights included the man slumped against the fence with a thousand yard stare 10 miles in - upon being asked if he was ok and needed anything he replied 'a fucking helicopter'

A mate trod on his own hand on the descent from cautley spout

Being overtaken by runners doing the marathon - that stung

The choice between using the sheep track & fighting your way through gorse bushes or staggering along a 45 degree slope and risking a sprained ankle

We love it really although it did put off one of our friends from running for a year.....

I’m 8:15 I think, I was originally booked on the 7am start but asked to move to the 8am as I didn’t think I’d get there for 7am, far too lazy in the morning Grin

That’s encouraging! I’m speaking to a coach about a proper training plan for the next 4 months rather than just winging it like I usually do Grin
What time are you starting at coniston? We’re at 7.05

@Petalpup I’m sure you will! I know the question wasn’t directed at me, but when I did the Manchester marathon my 10K PB was about 55, my half was just under 2 and I finished in 4:16 so it sounds totally doable to be Smile

@FellRunner94 ooh I’m doing the coniston marathon too! I’m doing it with a friend just for fun-I’m just hoping we get it done in the time allowance!

I’m also doing London for the first time in October and I’m so excited!
I’ve run trail marathons and ultras and road 10ks and halfs but London will be my first road marathon
@fellrunner85 my 10k pb is 49 minutes, half is 1.53 and (trail) marathon is 5.30. I’m trying not to worry about time for London but hoping for 4.30 and an easyish run. does that sound doable?

@werekitty Wow that is so impressive, especially for your first! I’m doing Coniston on the 6th June, seemed like a good idea at the time…

@FellRunner94 yes, it was the Howgills😄, for my first ever marathon I chose probably one of the toughest ones! I'm thinking of doing the Montane 20 on 5th June. Which trail marathon are you doing?

@werekitty oooh did you do the Howgills? If you don’t mind me asking Grin

I did a trail marathon on Sunday with 4,800 ft of climb. Felt really shattered yesterday but now wondering whether I can do a gentle 5k this afternoon.

Wow, well done everyone and especially @potatoes - that's a really good time considering they made you run an extra mile!

Nice work @potatoes! The advice is after a long race, the next day is have a short run so that you can purge fatigue poison and help your circulation.

@Potatoes That’s amazing well done! Such a great time too.

@SamusIsAGirl That’s a great pace, you’ll get your sub-4 no problem!

I did a 25 mile run on Sunday and it actually felt okay… was pleased with my time and feel ready for the 6th June Smile managed to get to 1,900ft elevation too so getting towards the 3,000ft on race day Grin

Did my first 25 km run on Sunday - managed an average of 6' 57" per kilometer. At this rate I'll finish the 23 mile race in 4 hours 10 minutes - aim for a sub 4 h time.

Ended up in bed by 9pm though.
