Hello again. Managed 5 mile run this morning, beautiful day for it.

I think really need to work on my technique though, I tend to drift off into my own thoughts quite a lot when running, but when I actually think about what I'm doing I lift my legs more and go faster, but then that only lasts about a minute before I'm distracted again!

Hi everyone, can I join you? I haven't had a chance to read all your posts yet but thought I'd just sign in and say hi.

I'm doing the Great West Run in October (half marathon) but I'm getting over a knee injury and I'm desperate to get running again. Today is the first day that I feel like I could safely run so I'm going to rest for one more day to be sure and I'll hopefully be out tomorrow night. It's only been a week but it feels like a month!

Right, I'm off to make a cup of tea and then I'm going to read the rest of this thread...

Hi there, can I join? I'm doing the GNR in September as well, currently only managing a couple of runs a week but am managing just over 4 miles each time and have finally managed to get my average under a 10 minute. Will be upping the frequency now that the countdown to race day is really starting to kick in.

3ismylot my first (and only so far) GNR was in 2010 and I started the same way you did, up to 5K followed by 16 week half marathon training. I remember breaking the four mile barrier for the first time, felt amazing, hope your run went well.

Can I join please? Started running in January did my first 10km last Sunday bit slower than I wanted but hillier than expected. Doing Windsor half marathon in September. Not sure how to get faster now.

Hi all thought I would jump in and join you all Grin

I am running the 5 mile National Lottery olympic anniversary run on july 21st (so excited to cross the finish line in the olympic stadium!)
then I am doing the GNR in september for Clic Sergant and am in the ballot for London Marathon next year.
!
I am a complete newby to running, I finished c25k last week and have just started a beginners half marathon training programme that will take 16 weeks, I started on monday and its been a bit harder as I run 3 days in a row instead of every other day but am happyily managing 3.2 miles with an uphill sprint finish now Smile

I have to get up and run at 530am as that is the only spare time I have but it starts the day off well so I cant complain. I have my longest run ever of 4 miles on sunday and I am both looking forward to it and nervous!

I have lost nearly 2 stone in the last 9 weeks but at 16 stone I have a way to go Blush Hoping to have dropped another 2 stone by GNR though.

ooops - that was me, inadvertently outing myself with the new user name I used for a thorny problem last week! Don't tell anyone who I am :)

Hello all - how's running been going this past week?

I did my 10k yesterday. Not trained as much as last year, so really gutted to miss my PB by only 3 seconds! Pleased I did better than I thought I would, but so unamused at being so close and spent all yesterday thinking what if I didn't slow down for water, what if I had started my sprint for the line 50 metres earlier, what if I had done an extra training run etc. Grrr!

I'm thinking of signing up for the Great South Run too PeggyO - it gives me time to get back from summer holidays and back into running properly, and seems like a good step up from 10k rather than doubling it to a half which slightly terrifies me!

Clure · 10/05/2013 21:21

well done PeggyO. I too am having ongoing injuries which at the moment mean I am resting from running (cycling and doing other gym classes like spin, combat and circuits) I'm not sure how quickly Brighton fills up, I entered straight away last year and ran it for ClicSargent. I was like you in that the year before didn't get a place at London so was really keen to still run a marathon (my first) and so went straight for Brighton. Its a fantastic marathon to do!

Hello, I would love to join in with you all! I've had to abandon my planned June half due to ongoing injury woes, most recently patellar tendinitis. But I am feeling happy today as the physio gave me the all-clear to try running again this week, and I have managed two days in a row pain free! Only 5 minute intervals followed by periods of walking, but it's a start...

At the moment my loose plan is to do a half marathon in September / October and the Great South at the end of October, and I have also entered the ballot for London next year (gulp!) I entered in one of those 'why not' moments, but now am really determined that next year will be my marathon year, so am thinking about back-up options. I like the look of Brighton, but don't want to enter and then find I have a place at London too! Does anyone have any idea how quickly Brighton / other marathons fill up?

Well done Belugagrad and girlsyearapart on your races!

Well done on the races!

I'm off out with my running group now. Starting to rain and getting cold, but I have confit duck legs and roast beetroot to come back to so I have to run hard Grin

Well I got out. 6.7mi so just over 10k. I was under the misapprehension that somerset was flat... oh man! It wasn't steep but it was rolling, And went on and on... T'was stunning though.

Took me an hour to do 10k though which was disappointing given I want to beat 56mins next month but much quicker than this time last year. I think over the next month I can probably knock 5 mins off that.

Well done on the bike ride Clure!

Hello! I fell off the thread somewhat. Not been out for a couple of weeks;work has been stupidly hard and I'm exhausted. I NEED to run but working to 3am to meet deadlines means I can't sensibly run after work or before since I REALLY need those 3hrs sleep.

We're down at mil's for the bh weekend so I'm hoping to get out and run but I don't really have enough energy to get out of my own way.
This week needs to be better. I have a 33mi tri next sat. Been on a bike once in 6y, so it could be a challenge...

What's everybody else up to over the bh w/e?

Good luck to you girls for Saturday.
Everton, loving the sound of your run!
Going to try a 10k tomorrow and see how the old knee holds up!

Report
girlsyearapart · 02/05/2013 18:53

Sounds lovely Everton.

I went out to run last night & ended up phoning the fire brigade! Fire on the nature reserve & no one around. Flames as high as the trees, anyway that put the end to my run as had to wait to direct the firemen. Some were rather lovely though..

Was going to go tonight but no one in with the kids so I can't.

That only leaves tomorrow as want to keep Saturday as a rest day.

But breaking news: I found my safety pins! Grin

Good luck beluga and girls!

I did a hard 8k with my running group today - lots of fast repeats and chasing people down! It was glorious though - sunshine, bird song and frolicking lambs, plus the fields are now just fields rather than bogs of trainer doom :)

Thanks.
Last week I ran sun, mon, tues and Thursday & the Thursday was the hardest even though it was the shortest at only 6k..

Think it doesn't suit me to have many rest days?
