First 9 mile race - need help!

Got a 9 mile offroad race next Sunday and am feeling badly underprepared! Have never ran 9 miles before although have probably done 7 or 8 at some point and regularly do 6. So am basically wondering whether attempting the distance on Wednesday (first chance i'll get) is worthwhile or am I better just hanging on til Sunday and seeing what happens? Or am I mad to even be considering it at all?!

I love my gps watch, can't run without it[hblush]

Another couple of miles is easier than you might think. Just break it down into shorter distances in your mind. Don't see it as a 9 mile run, but 3 x 3 miles or something like that.

That's what works for me anyway.

Do let us know how it goes[hsmile]

Probably did 7 miles on my long run last week (dh has a gps watch but I hate using it so just a guess off the time it took) before that probably a couple of weeks ago that I did anything longer than 6. Worst thing is I've known about the race for ages just kept putting off increasing the distances I was doing.

Thanks - am more than happy not to panic myself even more by attempting it beforehand! Seems like a lot further than I've ever done before but fingers crossed it won't be too bad!

if you regularly run 6 you'll be fine. and i agree with DoYou that you probably shouldn;t try the distance on Wednesday. the race will lift you round.

If you have done 7 or 8 miles before, you will be fine! The adrenaline from being in a race will keep you going.

Don't try and run the distance this week, your legs will be too tired.

Good luckSmile
