Just finishing the first year of my degree and my hand in date is today for 4 of my assignments.

I have completed 3 of them to what I consider an excellent standard, but I haven't even started the fouth one.

What would be the best option for me, do I quickly scribble a couple of thousand words and know that it will fail because there is no way I can pull together a decent essay in 2 hours.

or

Do I just hand it in late on Monday when I hand in my final few essays that are due then?

Which one would you do?

Our first year work does not count towards the final degree. Thank God!

We have been advised that any late work will go to the board and they will decide whether it gets marked at all. Generally what happens is that a % is taken off the over all mark.

This paper only has a 50% weighting as I gave a presentation earlier in the week that accounts for the other 50% of the mark of this particular assignment.

All my work has already been extended due to my dad falling seriously ill last week and being admitted to hospital. He lives 200miles away so we have been up and down the country checking on him.

I think Monday is my best option when I consider everything.

You need to know what the penalty is for a late submission. For my degree late submissions are capped at a D.
Also if you hand in an essay and fail you are allowed (once each year) to resubmit, but the grade is capped at a D.
So for my course it doesnt make much difference.

Would it be an option for you to ask for an extension?

I think I would hand it in on Monday and have a chance at a pass. As with MiaWallace, we could only achieve a 40% mark for a late submission but it was still a pass.

Where I study if you hand something in late it gets capped at 40% but at least thats still a pass.

If by handing it in on Monday you have a chance of passing, I would say do it over the weekend.

Do your first year marks count towards your degree?

Do you have a certain percentage taken off for handing it in late, or are there other penalties?

If you lost say 10% automatically, but that was it then I would hand it in on Monday. If it wouldn't get marked at all if it were late then I would probably cobble something together now.
