Spousal maintenance

I was just wondering if anyone had been awarded spousal maintenance or had a periodical payments order?

I'm currently a student nurse so I'm not in a position to work full time. I would have done my degree earlier but I had DC and then suffered severe depression which meant I had 6 months off work, cbt, counselling and was for a long time seeing a consultant - I had a dla award for over 5 years. Is it reasonable for me to ask for maintenance until I'm in a position to earn a decent wage?

Spousal maintenance is rarely awarded now. Courts prefer a clean break order.

it is more often given for older people who have been married a long time and have sacrificed their whole career for the other half.

I don't know anyone who has been awarded spousal maintenance. My dads ex wife tried to claim it (married nearly 20 years, him high earner and her low part timer earner). But she didn't get it.

Have you got a solicitor who specialises in this kind of thing?
