Yoko Ono at Tate

Has anyone else been? I only went because I was at an event there, but was surprised by how interesting I found it, how little I’d really known about her pre-John Lennon life, especially her upbringing and early years, and how mesmerising some of the work was, especially the vides of performances like ‘Cut Piece’. And the film of the Montreal ‘bed-in’ was fascinating.

I really recommend it. I thought it was well-curated, too, in that it was well-paced, and not like the Women in Revolt! show that just ended at Tate Britain, which was fascinating, but far too stuffed with endless vitrines of manifestos and small-scale things you needed to read in poor light in a small space.

Also unexpectedly child-friendly — a canvas on the floor to be walked on, a white boat in a room where you can make your own marks with blue markers, a canvas into which you can hammer nails, black fabric sacks from YO’s ‘Bag Piece’ you can get into and perform etc.
