Anxious about les mis

I saw les mis when it first came out (ahem) and have listened to the original cast recording on and off a lot since then. I loved it - it was an incredibly moving and inspirational experience and I love that soundtrack. I’m taking my 10 year old to see it for the first time next week and getting anxious that it won’t be nearly as good - they are super excited, but know the music from listening to the original cast recording, which had truly amazing voices in it. And haven’t they changed the production (and the music??) quite a lot? Has anyone who saw it a long long time ago also seen it very recently and still found it a wonderful experience? Please reassure me!!

I went with my mum at around the 10th anniversary point (think just before as I then had a video recording of the 10th anniversary production I taped when it was on tv), so mid-90s.

I've watched that video quite a lot, plus the 25th anniversary dvd I got subsequently.

Saw a young adult production locally in around 2017 with a friend.

Went with DP to see the filmed staged concert just before they closed the previous run, he'd never seen it and was surprised by how much he enjoyed it. Think that was Autumn 2019?

We then went to see the new production at the Sondheim in Feb 2020.
There were bits where I thought "that's not right" but overall I really really enjoyed it. DP was blown away.

I hope you have a great trip.

Thank you. I guess I’m worried the new production will be so different I won’t recognise it!
