Kylie Minogue receives award - am I the only who think that as a singer and entertainer, she is rubbish?

She receives this award which has been given to the likes of Elton John and Peter Gabriel in the past. Why?

She can't sing
She can't dance naturally
She can't write decent songs
She can't act

The only thing she is good at is self-promotion and hype, imho.

I just don't get it. She is a product of marketing and shrewd record labels who have conned a lot of the public into buying into the illusion that is Miss Minogue. This just confirms how vacuous and perfunctory pop music has become.

I really like her.

Envy? I don't think so. I give credit when credit is due, particularly when an artist displays real talent.

Elton John writes music and plays the piano. He has won an Oscar.

Miss Minogue mimes most of the time she appears live.

I think she deserves it - her music isn't great, but she's a good role model I think, seems pretty well grounded (or at least her image is). I always think of her as being really really hard working, and a nice person.

Well, Sir Elton certainly has an unmistakable sound.

Good role model? Well I suppose she demonstrates that no matter how talentless you are in your career choice, if you con enough people, you can make it big.

But most pop stars are talentless. Imo.

I think the shows she does (ie the Showgirl one that was on the telly) was a good show - but her singing was very average IMO

I agree speedymama. I don't dislike her, and wish her well blah blah.. but her only talent is that she once looked great in a pair of gold hotpants.

Before Spinning Around came out she was a virtual laughing stock. I admire her staying power and self belief. I will also own up to being green about the hotpants lark....but she is crap!

Agree with Whizzz. Kylie's voice quite stringy, weak and reedy....kinda whiney.

Through no fault of my own, I have heard Daniiiiiiiii sing live twice and she can sing.

Tortoiseshell, yes exactly, most pop stars are talentless and most do not receive awards like this one. Only the talented ones.

I suspect they have given this to her for staying power. She certainly does not merit it for her questionable contribution to music or her non-existent musical abilities.

As for her being able to sing, in that case, so can my cat. IMO, there is no way could she hold her own against the likes of Amy Winehouse, Beverley Knight or even someone like Baby Spice who is a below average singer.

In the age of celebdom she is merely riding off the back of the likes of Brand Beckham et all and most of us ut them there via heat and hello. She has now become a muse to some of the highest fashion houses on the planet.

Tbh, imo the Beatles couldn't sing, Elton John can write ok songs, but can't really sing either. Put any of them up against Bach or Mozart and you realise what musical talent is. Imo, the talent popstars have is a different one - they have a presence and a talent to engage an audience. Analyse the music and it's really not great, any of it.

Appsolutely, I've been trying to get somewhere with my songs in country, finally Europe puts all my songs in top 20 out of 5,000 countries, but not have had that success here, it's how you look in Australia!
