Buying from local and Irish businesses

Would anyone be up for a thread to swap recommendations and suggestions?

I’ve been trying to buy from local shops and Irish businesses lately and I have a number of birthdays coming up soon, as well as a mid winter event that cannot be spoken about yet.

I’ll be buying mostly online. And while I’m happy to support any store that is employing locally, I’m less inclined to order from them online as that doesn’t help my local community iyswim.

I’d probably have bought a jo malone candle or a Molton Brown gift set for the upcoming birthday, I’d love a suggestion for something along those lines.

My friend has a little bookshop in Dromore, Co Down, and you honestly won't get better prices than hers. It's called Bridge Books and she'll take orders over the phone and social media for delivery

Have a few things left to get and will shop with the smaller retailers where I can.

I have both some lovely gift sets in my local chemist, a place i would never usually think of buying christmas presents. I signed up to that website, shop in Ireland, i assume it's connected to the facebook page of the same name which is a brilliant platform for sellers/creators of Irish handmade goods.

Mine have long outgrown the baby stuff but hipbaby have lovely organic clothes, various accessories for pregnancy and new mums and fabulous customer service. There’s a sale on too.

A friend of mine has set up a business recently selling 100% organic babygros , bibs and wooden teethers and things . They are in gorgeous gift boxes but I think they only have newborn sizes .
I ordered a cute panda box yesterday but haven’t received it yet!

Great idea for a thread! There are loads of ideas and links all over facebook. I just bought some lovely soaps from earthmother.ie. i am really going to make an effort to buy irish made sustainable gifts this year and am encouraging everyone i know to do the same. Every little helps, as they say.

unbound has a lovely range of gifts, some nice things for cycling fanatics, lots of quirky mugs, a range of colours of leuchtturm if you’re in to bullet journaling,

Probably not appropriate for gifts (might be a bit smelly!) but I can recommend Gannet fishmongers for fresh fish delivery - based in Galway, they deliver to other counties, not sure if all of them, but definitely Mayo! Also Mescan beer is made locally to us - one of the guys used to be our vet - lovely man, lovely beer!

Reuzi.ie is a good spot for ethical gifts. Justbuyirish.com has a huge amount of places listed, I've been finishing up my Christmas shopping with that as my go to.
