Covid

This is an endless nightmare

Can someone please talk me down. I’m a combination of incredibly fed up, very worried, beyond worn out, depressed and just bloody incensed by the lack of leadership in this country.

Have spent the last 6 months home schooling, washing fucking shopping, doing everything we can to avoid this sodding virus. Have worked from home and seen my business badly affected and so I’m already worried about that. Holidays have gone, more money lost. Worried for vulnerable parents hundreds of miles away that I can’t visit easily. Isolated and know almost no one in a part of the country we moved to only months before this shit show and so have zero social life. DH is great, so Is DC, but Jesus this is tough.

And now today, to top it all off my teenage dc has come down with covid symptoms after being back at school nary a week. I feel so sorry for him. He’s fevered, shivery and feeling absolutely shit with headache, sore throat etc. I feel ok at the moment, but God knows what tomorrow may bring. And now to top it all off, I cannot get a fucking test anywhere ‘no sites found’ apparently.
Am going to have to keep trying, but honestly I could cry.

good metaphor. I was thinking this morning that this is like WW1. The Eton educated rulers sent the workers into the front lines, while the officers stayed behind in safety. Are the upper middle class professionals going to their offices? No, the City is dead. The rich are sorted.

Just coming back to this thread.

I got a postal test eventually and it was delivered Friday evening. Sent back on Sat morning and now waiting for results.
Feeling slightly less defeated, and dc is feeling much better, but looking at the increase in numbers and the months ahead I can’t help but dread what is to come. I will almost feel guilty sending him back when the negative (hopefully) result arrives - feels like sending him back to the front lines!

Right there with you OP. My kids have been back at school since last Thursday and now have them both home. It feels like the whole thing has been a complete waste of time and Im feeling very defeated by it all today.

I did manage to get a postal test the next morning (around 8am) so keep trying Thanks

this difficulty getting a test is another inexcusable failure isn't it, must feel like the last straw to have to struggle with that OP. Hope you have better luck tomorrow.

I hope your son feels better soon OP.

Just keep trying every couple of hours for a test. I was asked to get a routine research test the other day and randomly during the day various locations or postal tests would become available (although the nearest was 35 miles away). Due to the current shortage I won't be booking one for myself as I'd rather a possible active case had it instead right now.

I hope you manage to get something booked soon.

If that fails in the morning, I’m just going to turn up!

Thanks everyone. It helped even just to have a bit of a rant. Sometimes it’s just too much - for me this is worse than lockdown.

When I tried to book it said postal tests weren’t available, so not sure what’s going on. Couldn’t get drive through or walk through. I read online that more slots may be available in the morning so I will try first thing.

Do you have a local walk-in site? Often these appear booked but actually are not if you just turn up

Yes try just turning up at a test centre, that's what I did with my DS. We had a result 34 hrs later. So sorry you're having such a bad time.

does it give you the postal option?

Oh you poor thing, this is a very tough time,
Especially if your child now has symptoms. Keep trying for a test.
Of course you’re going to feel fed up and depressed. I don’t have many words of wisdom apart from I truly believe things will be different this time next year. It will get better. the scientists were pretty upbeat today on vaccines and mass testing to reduce the need for social distancing.

Flowers That sounds rough. Sorry.

Do you have any sites nearby? As shown on the news, some sites are not busy at all, but they couldn't get a test arranged via official channels. Some people are having better luck with just going.
