Loving families and friends impacted

Supposedly to make things simpler, it seems to me so many people will be deeply sadly impacted “the 6 rule” with little effect.

Effective would be to

 • close indoor pubs
 • close indoor restaurants
 • masks compulsory
 • WFH if you can
 • Secondary school Live online except for vulnerable, those without tech (teachers/pupils)

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I've not heard that, i really can't see people wanting that.

userxx and now rules have changed, the argument that we should close schools so people can meet 7 people socially is disgusting
@only Trouble is with your arguments is that 100s of independent secondaries - and a few states - have already proven to do Live Secondary brilliantly. It is actually something we are world-beating at. Look at what Wycombe Abbey or Eton or Stamford or your local leading independent did and it proves wholly against your varying points.
Wow - really? Online learning was awful for my teens. My DD has just started year 11 and online learning would NOT work for her year at all. Online learning is better than nothing but it is not equal to learning at school I promise you that. I nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to help my kids through remote learning - it was awful.

How will shutting pubs and restaurants help when contact tracing shows that most of the transmission is occurring at private social gatherings in people’s homes? Hence the rule change.

@PurpleDaisies I was answering a question. The reason I see more than 6 people at a time is because of my social circle.

Report
PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2020 22:07

Why not?
Because it’ll be illegal?

Report
userxx · 09/09/2020 22:06

A better question is why do you need to see more than 6 people at a time?

mintpeonies state schools will not suddenly become Etons! Shock horror rich families can provide better for home schooling....my points are valid you just don’t have a 14yr old son at state school to give a damn!

Not to mention schools. So you want my husband to be out of work and my kids not to get a proper education so you can meet more people in one group. Selfish

Yes because closing the livelihoods of millions of people down indefinitely won’t Impact families.

Sorry OP completely disagree re secondary schools

1-childcare
Whilst you can leave secondary kids at home alone, some are only 10/11yrs old, it’s not easy to say they will be fine, many parents wouldn’t be comfortable with this.
2- home learning
It’s far easier to have a parent/ guardian help a primary school child count etc. My nephew was only year 7 during lockdown but he had Spanish, IT coding, music composition to learn, no way could my sister or bro in law help with those. These are kids heading towards life deciding examinations, they can’t just crack on at home.

3- facility access- even if you give them all
Laptops it’s far harder to ensure a teenager actively logs in and does the work required.

4- mental health. Teenagers are prone to depression, lots of hormones and changes. I would say they suffer more from isolation than younger children, you cannot cut them off from their peers.

Combined with the safeguarding issues/ lack of a free meal for some- a terrible idea. Close everything before you close schools!

We are a family of 5 and while disappointing I understand it. I also don’t see it as an end to all socialising as others have said just that we will have to split as a family- for example I will take one DC on a weekend to meet their friend and parent while DH has the others or I will take the kids to my parents while DH cleans the house (HAHA). It’s not the end of meeting up with anyone!

❤️ breaking “rule of 6”

Secondary schools should move online live. Fortnitely meetings in person. High schools open to offer wifi and tech to the poor without it (including any teaching staff) and for the vulnerable.

Many leading boarding schools are hosting online lessons right now.

Primaries must stay open for childcare and cos online does not work well for them. But fines for any families who chose to homeschool are inhumane - it is a basic human right to health/safety but primary education can be at home if the families so choose.

Why aren’t we hearing more from obituaries and memorials about all the dead? It’s like there’s a War going on in the Somme but the press aren’t reporting on the dead.

Seeing extended family can be deemed non essential. Of course high schools aren’t 100% secure but they are 100% needed.

The virus spreads through contact, mainly through cells in nasal cavity. That’s how we catch it.

IMHO it is detected in frozen food plants cos they - for health and safety - are actively testing staff.

Meanwhile in secondary schools ......

It seems to me so disingenuous to be telling us secondary schools are covid secure. Indeed, a lie.

Yes, it’s not perfect. But pubs and restaurants are not essential. It’s a luxury leisure activity. And the nation’s health can’t afford it at the moment.

Whatever happened to the right to a family life?

It is being upheld, as your family has the right to live and socialise together, and whatever the number of family members normally resident in your household (even if it exceeds 6) you can do that.

The right to family like covers things like the right to have a family, to choose it of your own free will, and to not be forcibly separated by the state.

It does not cover the number of people you socialise with in the middle of a pandemic, during temporary restrictions introduced under powers in a lawfully passed Act with a sunset clause)

@Jagoda

Across the board it will be swings and roundabouts though.

For me, as a singleton, it means I can meet up with five friends from separate households and go to a restaurant legally. Before this, I could only meet up with one friend at a time indoors.

not quite true. LEGALLY you could have met up with up to 29 friends indoors before

Our secondary was dire during lockdown and DS is doing GCSE's - which affect his entire future life. I think that it slightly more important that you socialising for a few months.

They have changed it now so the households thing doesn't apply. It's all about the Rule of 6.

So if you are three couples you can meet,
Two couples with one child each
6 singles from 6 households

Indoors or out!!

Report
SellFridges · 09/09/2020 19:14

Sorry, I mean indoors. Outdoors with up to six people from six households was allowed and still will be.
