Just seen this on FB

I'm not panic buying toilet roll, dry pasta or paracetamol.... I'm making sure my immune system is at its best so I can fight off anything that comes my way!
Want to know what I'm using to help me do that?

This is by someone is in an MLM.

I am so cross that they're peddling this.

IMO people selling things at marked up prices during a world wide emergency should be locked up for treason. It takes a certain level of selfishness and scumbaggery to profiter at a time like this.

DH spotted this earlier & we were discussing the scumminess of such people. I'm glad ebay, Amazon etc are stopping their accounts. I hope they are ostracized by all their friends too. Scum.

A couple in Vancouver were buying all the hand sanitiser from several Costco stores (70,000 dollars worth) and selling it on Amazon for 4 times the price. www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5496733

@MasakaBuzz I’m not set up or registered for under 5’s.
This is where I think I will face backlash from local childminders because until all bets are off they are limited by numbers of babies they already have in their care. I’ve got no under 5’s so can pack them to the rafters. And my profit margin will be higher.
They won’t like that.

@ReceptacleForTheRespectable

You are missing the point. Advertising that you have certain products available is not the issue. The issue is the pictures of empty shelves and trying to stir up fear. It is unkind and unnecessary.

@ChrissieKeller61- would it be rude of me to suggest anyone who looks after small children is clinically insane.

I am a retired teacher. I had to retire on health grounds. I have completely **cked joints. However I am aware that being under the critical age I will morally have to volunteer to supervise some of the older kids. I am not looking forward to it. However I am only doing the older ones. I am not that altruistic......!!!

“To be honest even the food producers are doing it. Usually offers everywhere in Tesco on canned stuff. Not so much now! “

Agree. Local Sainsbury's has an end of aisle display, might as well be labelled Coronavirus stockpiling.
5 kg bags of pasta, 18 pack loo rolls, hand wash, 12 tin trays of tomatoes, 12 tin trays of chickpeas (you’ll definitely need the loo roll after all of those chickpeas ...)
So, they’re advising not to panic buy whilst facilitating and positively promoting it.

There are posts in my local comunity FB group from local shops and businesses saying, "dont worry if Morrisons has sold out, we have soap/loo roll/pasta in at the moment". Or, "If youre self isolating, we'll deliver a takeaway and leave it on your doorstep". It's not wrong to do that, and the Avon post was no different.

People want soap, and if the supermarkets have sold out they are going to want to order it elsewhere. Avon sells soap and has stock, and wants to advertise that fact to the people who need soap.

@Noeuf

I think we need to disagree on this one. Had she been advertising soap for sale, I would have thought “chancer” and wandered on my way. I think the post was calculated to scare people, and was wrong,

@MasaskBuzz I can’t lie I have considered upping them by a quid as danger money and to fund the holiday I’ll need to recover from 12 hour days for the next few months

@MasakaBuzz What on earth is wrong with that Avon ad?

They're selling an essential product (soap) for a fair price. There's no suggestion that they have stockpiled in order to profit - this is their normal business, and what they normally sell. And the statement in the post that handwashing is effective against the virus is accurate, and in line with government advice. They're not encouraging other people to stockpile either.

What exactly is the problem with it? Are we against anyone selling soap now, even if that's how they normally earn their living?

Well up to you what you take offence at mask but as she's pointing out the obvious and offering a solution which probably earns her £1 at best I think you were wrong to insult her.

It’s the pictures of empty shelves and the “Have no fear Avon is here” that offended me. It was designed to get orders by frightening people.

@ChrissieKeller61

If you were increasing your prices over this, that would be an issue. If however you are allowing key workers to work by looking after their children, then being paid for that is not an issue.

Profiteering just revolts me. I picked up a couple of packets of paracetamol when I saw them, even though I had some. I bought them to give to a friend, as it’s the only painkillers she can stomach. I will refuse to take even the pennies they cost from her.

It’s probably just me.

A couple of weeks ago, everyones favorite person with a surname that rhymes with "wanks" was busier trying to corner the market in iodine.

Now that's scummy.

@MasakaBuzz I totally get what your saying and to some extent I agree but we seem to be keen to vilify indiviuals on ebay selling a products that most people dont even need. Yet all around the world year after year big pharmaceutical companies make billions in profit yearly selling drugs that people need to stay alive.

It also reminds me of the scene in Schindlers list we’re the boy sells his chocolate for 100 quid or whatever. Your £100 won’t be any good to you where you’re heading

Where do you draw the line though ? I own a nursery and if the schools close in theory I could take 20 school aged children at £5 per hour £5,000 a week in additional turnover. Is that wrong ? I’ll need to buy extra equipment which will keep a couple of small businesses ticking over and it might keep front line workers in work. No doubt I’ll be hated though
