All schools closed in Ireland

From 6pm this evening, all universities, schools and creches are closed until at least 29th March. That's one week before schools are due to close for two weeks for Easter. I live and teach here in Ireland. As far as I can see, it's in line with a European request for all countries to do the same.

Why aren't they following suit in Britain does anyone know? Pardon my ignorance (not being from Britain) but is it something to do with not being part of the EU anymore? BoJo asserting his Independence?

Basically they don’t seem to think it will work. They said that if they go too strict and lock everyone down too early, everyone will get bored of it and start ignoring the rules and so by the time the peak comes around it will be worse than if we’d done nothing. They will look at school closures etc closer to the predicted peak. It makes sense I thought.

No, The inertia is because Boris and co are desperate for Brexit to work so they will do anything to keep the economy rolling. It doesn’t matter to them how many people will die, after all, that’s just saving them more money.
