Ovulation Tests...

Ok, so I worked out from my cycle (based on last six months) which days I should be ovulating on, but according to my testing kit it says there is no hormone surge.

Could it be possible to have regular periods but not be ovulating? - I hadn't even thought this could be the reason that we are not yet pregnant.

Any experiences anyone?

Thank you!
I am off to ebay now.
Feeling very naive to find out that apparently its possible to get pregnant when you are on your period.

It is possible that you are ovulating outside your testing 'window', either earlier or later, and that's why your kit isn't picking up a hormone surge.

It's also possible to miss your surge if you are testing just once a day. Some months I had very short LH surges, less than 24 hours from start to finish. In the end, I bought a bundle of internet cheapies and tested twice a day from about CD6 onwards til I caught it. I got very stubborn about tracking that surge down...

(FWIW, I read a lot of stuff about LH building during the day, and how one shouldn't use FMU, but use mid afternoon wee instead. I never saw this reflected in the pattern of when I got strong lines on my OPK's, which was another reason to test twice a day.)

It is very possible to be ovulating while still on your period (think about all those myths from school - you cant get pregnant while on your period - you can!) Your follicular phase could be really short (or your period long?)

I bought some v cheap ovulation tests off the internet and then you dont have to worry about only having 5 or 7 for £££ - try ebay if you havent done this already! You can get a batch with cheapy pg tests too for about £5 for 30 + 5 or similar IIRC. Then you can POAS all cycle if you want!

After 6 months of TTC i started to chart my temperature - this was a definite way of tracking that I had ovulated (or at least started releasing progesterone) - your temp rise should match your surge. Et voila - am due in march

Good luck x

Thanks for your reply, but, if I do a day or two earlier then I am testing when I am at the end of my period. (cycle is 25-27 days long)
Surely its not possible to be ovulating when you are on your period?
