Clearblue ovulation test

Hi all! Me and my husband have just started properly trying this month. I’ve started using the clearblue ovulation test from CD 9 as I wanted to have a better idea on when I’m in fertile window and when I’m ovulating ( I do have an app as well but wasn’t sure how accurate it is!) I first started getting a circle then had a flashing smiley face on CD 12 and I’m now at CD 18, it’s still coming up as a flashing smiley face! According to my app that I should be ovulating today so I’m worried that I may not be ovulating? Or am I just ovulating late this month? I’ve used the test back in the summer and I used to get a solid smiley face just after a few days of the flashing face (although I did go from a circle straight to a solid face once!) ... but haven’t tested again until this month! I have heard that the test sometimes doesn’t work properly on the first month as it needs to work out your cycle? So I wonder if it’s that as I’ve opened a new pack with a new monitor? Has anyone experienced this before???

Hi everyone!

Really hoping for some advice!

I came off pill in December and wanted my cycle to settle before TTC. I averaged 32 days for 5 months, although last one was 37 days.

Started ttc in may, and now I’m on CD 51 with no period and 4 bfn.

So decided to start clear blue ovulation tests from around CD45 (more just to see what happens.)

I’ve had clear circles so far as expected but this morning it was a flashy face!! Is it possible I’m ovulating really late on CD51?!

I’m hoping so because it means I’m normal lol!

Website gives clearer instructions...but from memory flashing means estrogen and solid smiley means lh surge ie ovulation. Might have just missed ur estrogen over night or something

I have just Starting actively try again and have been using the clear blue ovulation test I am a little bit confused because the ovulation test went straight from a circle to smiley face (not flashing ) is this normal or is it meant to flash first

I would keep going until the recommended day in the instruction leaflet. I conceived after 9 days of flashing smileys and am now 18 wks pregnant. I remember being so frustated at seeing those flashing faces as i was testing twice a day over xmas after my flashing, as per instructions, and was thinking id missed my peak

I would ignore your app potentially, it might be right but also might be wrong and thats why ovulation tests are good. I was supposed to ovulate on boxing day according to my flo app then didn't ovulate until 5th january...id of missed my fertile window if id gone by it. Period apps basically decide you ovulate on a set day like cd14 cd 16 but thats not necessarily accurate.

You are right in saying you need to use a different monitor each time but i think they are potentially fine early on. I used last summer and conceive in cycle 2 of trying but sadly had a mc then again at Christmas.

I did tried the cheap tests and these work great for some people but i foubd these too stressful staring at a line thinking is it darker? But they work differently for everyone

I am so confused 🙈 I had ewcm last night quite a lot of it so assumed this morning my clearblue ovulation test would be positive but it was no smiley face now 3 hours later I done a cheap one and it's positive. Anyone?!

Hey guys,

I have been using the clear blue connected ovulation system starting this cycle and for some reason I have had 19 days of high fertility but no PEAK. I have had my ovaries tested on ultrasound and they were fine, been trying for over a year now and still no baby.

Have others had this??

@MrsHP2018 thank you! I’ve been testing once in the morning and once in the evening but so disappointed when I see that smiley face flashing at me! Sad

@Nat4392 I was testing once a day until I got the flashy one, then I started testing twice a day. May try the pink line one next month!

@Willow146 thank you! I really hope I get the static smiley face soon! I’ve never had a flashy one for this long! I’m hoping it’s just me ovulating super late this month lol!

@Teacaketotty thank you! I have some of the cheap ones left so will try tomorrow. It would be annoying if I don’t end up ovulating this month Confused

Hi @JM0934 I've been using the clearblue advanced ovulation kit and it's matched up perfectly with my clue app for 3 cycles. I find on the day my app says I should be ovulating I do a test in the morning (flashy smiley face) and then again in the evening and this is when I get my static smiley face. It might be worth trying this if you have enough sticks. Good luck x

Are you testing once or twice daily? It’s possible to miss your peak if you only do once a day. I’ve found it more reliable to do twice a day when you suspect ovulation. Also I prefer the pink LH only tests, there’s no annoying flashing smiley face, it’s either a yes or a no so I find it much clearer, but that’s just me.

Stick with it! If you started testing on the right day you should get a solid face soon. Last cycle I had 9 days of smug flashy faces before my solid, and this was right because my period was then 4 days later than normal so must have just ovulated later. I only had my usual 4 days of flashy faces this month. Hopefully you get that solid face soon but don't be disheartened. I googled it and found so many forums of women that had endless of days flashy faces!

I found the clear blue tests didn’t work for me, I never got a full positive from them.

The cheap test strips were much better and worked for us. The clear blue ones were a waste of money for me.

Buy the cheap ones off amazon or eBay and you can test every day, then when the test line is darker than the control line you will ovulate in 24-48 hours - sure enough I would get a pinching pain around that time too.

Good luck x
