Hi All,

We are going to start trying for a baby soon and I am wondering what advice you guys all have about supplements. I was looking at Foilic Acid but have seen some that have iron and zinc etc...Pregnacare Conception looks like the most popular.

I suffer with PCOS so any other advice would be very welcome :)

Thank you all

Vicki

You should take folic acid for around 3 months before conceiving ideally. I'm currently on Seven Seas, have tried Sanatogen, and have tried Pregnacare. I usually buy whatever is the best value for money on special offer. When pregnant you need to make sure you get calcium, vitamin D and folic acid for sure

I started off taking pregnacare but they didn't agree with me (I was convinced I was pregnant due to all sorts of symptoms but actually it was brought on by the tablet plus my cycle length changed. I'm now using seven seas but my doctor actually told me that folic acid and a vitamin D tablet daily would be sufficient.

Sorry, should have been clearer: we were told we would struggle to conceive because of some biological reason with me, not because of the tablets. As it's going to be a struggle, I decided to stop wasting money on these each month and just make sure I get the nutrients from foods (which is better anyway than relying on tablets, so it's given me a kick up the bum!). I am of course still taking folic acid as that's crucial and is much harder to gain from food alone (certainly in the amounts you need, and to get it in every day!).

Can I ask why they make it hard to conceive?

welcome to the excitement crazy that is ttc!
i take seven seas, started taking them a couple of months before we started trying, they are nice and small so easy to take. i mostly picked them because they sell them in my sainsburys, so i just get the with my normal shop.

thanks for reminding me i need to buy some more! Smile

Hi Vicki

I started taking pregnacare about 1 month before we started TTC. I found it messed my cycles a little, so I moved on to sevenseas "trying for a baby". After a few months I came off that as it was just so expensive and we were told it would be a struggle to conceive. I think as long as you take folic acid and have a generally healthy diet, you don't really need much more in the initial TTC stages Smile. The folic acid is of course a non-negotiable!

Terrible spelling and not actually a complete sentence in the last message!

What I meant to say was were you recommended to start taking them as soon as TTC?

Pregnacare Conception is the one I use - I also have PCOS and this was the one recommended for me :)
