Have I tested too soon??

Hi all,

I took a pregnancy test yesterday (well 3 to be exact lol) all positive – one regular ‘clear blue’ test and 2 of the week indicator ones (which indicated 2-3 weeks pregnant) :)

Totally over the moon, as I have just started Clomid at the fertility clinic, this will be our first child – I have PCOS and have never been pregnant before. My Ovulation was a week late this cycle, so it was just luck we caught it, my period was due at the weekend, but I just knew something was up, I have had an ‘odd’ feeling over the last week or so, and I had what I believe to be a light spotting a week ago, possibly due to implantation? It all ties in with the night in question so to put my mind at rest (and check my mind wasn’t paying tricks on me) I took the tests.

The thing is, I phoned the fertility clinic this morning to tell them about the positive tests – and they have (not intentionally I dare say) now put the fear of god in me by telling me I have tested ‘too early’ and I should have waited until this coming weekend – as the test results I’ve just had could be the result of a ‘Biochemical pregnancy’ – I have googled this, and am worried I have tested too soon, got my hopes up etc. She did say she wasn’t saying I’m not pregnant, and to take the test again on Saturday and phone back, but now every twinge now I’m panicking a bit.

I still 'feel' odd, and now have sore breasts and feel a bit sick (though I am putting this down to nerves now)

Has anyone else been through this? Have I jumped the gun (it’s going to be a long week) :(

Everybody tests then! No actually that's not true.

Women who can bear to wait wait till their period is a day late. Many of us are testing before it's actually due.

May I say again, congratulations! Now get yourself over to the expecting in March mumsnet thread (if I've counted the months right, you might want to double check that!)

There will be lots of mumsnetters there who have also just had a BFP, who will be delighted to share your exciting news. I found those threads a brilliant source of support and information when I was pregnant with my DC.

I tested really late with a mc as I didn't have regular cycles... I tested super early with my nearly 4 year old as I was under consultant for my mc and under instructions to test until negative which I did and got my neg but the morning of my last consultant appointment I felt like testing and got a + so early along all he could see even on an internal scan was purely a thickened lining nothing at all else.

Pregnant is pregnant when ever you test! I would complain at a fertility treatment clinic saying something like that to you if I'm honest they know how very much pregnancy is wanted by the women calling them and to be such a Killjoy at good news is horrible.

Congrats and don't let them ruin this time for you.

Yes I would have been due my period on Saturday, and I tested Sunday - I guess they would have preferred me to wait until this weekend (which is what I think she was getting at) but hey " I'M PREGNANT"

Thank you all for your messages - it is difficult speaking to the husband tbh, not because he doesn't care, far from it, but he thinks I am getting ahead of myself and he wants everything 'confirmed' by the fertility clinic before he starts to get too excited about it, and I haven't told anyone else so this is a great place for advice and support.

I'm sorry they've taken the shine off your wonderful news.

There is a risk with any pregnancy, but the correct response to finding out someone is pregnant is to wish them well not remind them of the risks!

I don't think this is acceptable from a place that deals with lots of pregnant women and should know better. They have made you worry unduly and they should know better.

If I was in your position, I would writ a letter of complaint to stop them doing the same to other new mothers, it is thoughtless in the extreme IMO.

Must go, my "early test" -and I tested earlier than you - is now a lovely 2 year old who is demanding my attention!

Do you mean your period was due the weekend just gone? If so, you haven't tested early at all IMO. Plus 2-3 weeks on a digital means 4-5 weeks pregnant. Which is when most people find out they're pregnant, no? Congrats RM82, you are pregnant today, and that's what matters

I'm going through a chemical pregnancy right now and to me what you're experiencing doesn't sound like it but please be wary of testing too soon. There is a test day calculator on the First Response website. If I had followed the guidelines it could have saved me a lot of heartache, spending the weekend thinking I was pregnant. Please don't beat yourself up about testing early. There's many tests that give a result before your period is due, and there's a hell of a lot of impatient women TTC around. (Me included!)
A miscarriage at any stage of pregnancy is upsetting. But no amount of worrying will change the outcome so just try to relax and take each day as it comes.

The sooner you find out the more likely you are to know if you miscarry. But when you track periods and ovulation etc you know it anyway, even without a test. My GP said ' congratulations. But be aware that 20% of pregnancy's don't make it'.

If a pregnancy is going to be sucessful, it doesn't matter when you test. But it does give you longer to worry about it!
By far the majority of pregnancies turn out to be full term, so fingers crossed you have a smooth lovely 9 months ahead of you.
Get taking your vitamins and Saturday will be here in no time.

One of the risks of early testing is opening yourself up to knowing about the pregnancy very early and potential heartbreak of the pregnancy not working out. FX it works out for you
