Hi had a hsg done today following an ectopic last January to check my tubes, consultant said that it has been known for people to conceive quite soon after having it done...has this happened for anyone?

Hi All, just wanted to join this thread as I just had my HSG today... I know it's different for everyone, but mine wasn't bad at all. I think I've had smears as bad! All clear, apparently (though they said they'd be analysing the results further), so I'm in the same boat as some of you... Unexplained (i.e. extremely frustrating) infertility! I'm 31 and have been trying for 1.5 years, so here's hoping that the dye shakes things up a bit, because TTC when everyone's conceiving around you is very demoralising, and it's hard acting normal at work / with friends / with family when it's all you're thinking about. Baby dust to all, and hopefully I and you will have good news soon... Flowers

Hope you're getting over the flu Robin it's horrible when you are Ov'ing & not well. I know having flu is rubbish enough anyway but when you think you're missing dtd at the crucial time it's awful Hmm

I'm away with work from Tues which is CD17 for me. When I was charting I Ov'd 16-18 so rubbish timing! I've been ok since HyCoSy & managed to DTD a couple of times - so far Blush

Haha impatient that's a good way to spend the day on the sofa! Bit weird tht they haven't shared the news with anyone and kept it so secretive.

I have been battered by the flu so we haven't dtd more than once yet. Should be OVing anytime now.Confused

i got pregnant with DD2 the next cycle after i had a hsg following an ectopic. think it helped that i totally relaxed once i had the scan and was told my tubes were ok.
i will warn you that for me, the scan was extremely painful when they injected the fluid. But only for 30 seconds or so. mind you i must have made quite a fuss as the nurse stopped half way through as she was being sympathetic, and then had to start all over again once i had pulled myself together. i'm not normally a wimp when it comes to pain but it felt like i was being burnt inside. So take some painkillers before!
I really hope you get lucky soon

Gosh summer that's a lot to cope with in one day. Glad you are back in the routine Robin Wink

I found out yesterday that a friend of DHs is expecting - although the couple haven't actually told us yet! They live in the US and got engaged in May then phoned us to say we were invited to the wedding in September. I assumed Sept the following year but no it was in 2 weeks! Our invite didn't actually arrive until after the wedding... I said to DH she must be preggers but he wasn't having any of it Wink anyway the male friend shared something on FB yesterday from a parenting website, which aroused my suspicion and super stalking tendencies and 1 google later I found their Baby Wish List which includes the due date - March! DH is a but put out that he hasn't even been told and he considers this person one of his closest friends Sad bit weird too that they have a public gift list with all the details yet are keeping it quiet in every other way!

So now I have outed myself as a total crazy woman! My excuse is that I was on the sofa all day resting Wink

Hey Robin & Summer hope you have recovered well and have been busy Wink

Had my hycosy this morning. It was very quick and I didn't find it painful, in fact the sonography person asked if I already had children as I obviously had a 'high gynaecological pain threshold' Shock wasn't quite sure what to say to that really! She did say that everything looked fine and tubes clear - seeing Con on 31st.

Anyway I've felt a bit delicate for the rest of the day and tired but that's probably just coming down from the anxiety state I work myself into! I have terrible white coat syndrome and hate hospitals because I work in the NHS plus my Mum came with me which was quite stressful in itself...

Fingers crossed we'll all be back in a couple of months reporting success Grin

I have just come back from my Hycosy and wanted to write about how it went.
I had two people in the room with me a nurse and a male doctor. I had to lie down with my legs up in the stirrups and the male doctor putting the catheter and speculum thingy up my delicate bits Blush He was really nice and kept me talking so I would relax. Felt a lot of strong cramps when things were going up and a really strong urge to let out some wind (eeeek!) but i held it back. Once the catheter was in, there was no cramping, just some discomfort.

It was over within minutes and my tubes got the all clear. I could see everything on the ultrasound - the dye just shot through both tubes. No pain or cramps afterward, just some mild bleeding.

He also said as I had mine done on CD8 and haven't ovulated yet, I should be good to ttc after a day or two. So fx for that BFP this month.

That's good to know cuz I haven't taken any laxatives either. Not eating much today as the leaflet says light meals only for 2 days before treatment and I have been gorging on food all weekend!

Will let you know how it goes today.

No mention of laxatives in my leaflet or in the verbal instructions that I got Robin

Just the paracetamol 1 hour before appointment time.

Hi , I have had 3 cycles of clomid, but still have not ovulated. My progesterone on cd21 are very low, I'm having blood test again on day 21 on Monday, however I think this will be too soon as I had positive opk s on weds and thurs last week ? If my level is low and confirms no ovulation, then the next step is an HSG. I dont really know much about this, will it increase my chance of a pregnancy? what happens if a blockage is found ? Any advice greatly appreciated.

FriendofDorothy · 06/01/2013 02:29

I got pregnant the cycle after having an HSG. I also was on Clomid so will never know which of them made the difference.

Thanks for sharing crazy. I won't get my hopes up for this month but I really do hope it is a miracle cure of some sort.

Good luck with yours impatient - keep us posted.

Hi again,
Don't know if you've seen the hut of gl/doom thread? They've really helped me and given me lots of support.
We have been ttc for 3yrs. Finally got clomid in October as had to lose lots of weight first and then hospital messed up too. Husbands analysis was fine but I wasn't ovulating. Ovulated on clomid but still no joy. Hsg said my womb/ovaries fine but that the entrance to my cervical canal is tiny so semen might not be getting in.
Period due next Friday and got to phone fertility nurse to see what next step is. Whether I'll take more clomid or have to have something done.

Didn't work for me either I'm afraid, was really hoping it would.

The actual procedure wasn't really painful, felt abit strange and had a bit of cramping the next day but nothing to bad. Good luck to you all!

Thanks to those sharing experiences - always good to hear the reality however much we want to believe it will be a miracle cure...

Just for info we're on cycle 19 ttc #1. DH has been checked & whilst figures were all in the normal range they were low - was referred to urology but since discharged as no major concern/reason was found.

HyCoSy on Jan 10th then back to consultant on 31st for us!
