Can anyone suggest a board game or something similar that two boys aged 2 and 4 can play together?

I agree -a 2 yo can't do a board game. Also losing games can be difficult for a 4 yo, let alone 2 yo. And the 2 yo will lose most of the time..

Crocodile Dentist might work. (YOu take turns to press crocodile teeth until you find the one that makes croc munch your hand).

would second insey winsey spider. There are 4 years between our two and they loved that - easy enough for the younger one and exciting enough for the older. I think snakes and ladders/ludo can be too long for most 2 year olds. Picture dominos or lotto might be good too?

I have a bright almost 6yr old and there is still a huge range suitable for him.

We have had,

-Red dog, blue dog
-Dotty dinosaurs
-pop to the shops
-Spotty dog

About 10 more.

My eldest 2 play them together and there's 2yrs between them. I'm keeping the easier ones in good condition for when dd2 turns 2.

Both my boys loved Gulo Gulo, the youngest being two and a half when he first played it.

Its a dexterity game, where small kids have a natural advantage over grownups.

I've got nearly 4 y-o and a 2.9 y-o, and I was thinking of getting snakes and ladders for ds1's 4th birthday in a couple of weeks. There's a big Maisy floor version of it which I thought might be simple enough for them both to play. They can both count to 6 so I reckon it would be easy enough.

Some goo dideas on here though.

We have also played Kerplunk relatively successfully but be warned it takes ages to set up, but change the rules so the person with the most marbles wins.

Cariboo is great. As long as your 2 year old can recognise colours, numbers 1, 2, 3, letters A, B, C and some simple shapes. My DCs are 5 and nearly 3.

The dd's (5 and 3) love the Orchard games, Greedy gorillas is their favorite.

Dd1 is asking for this for christmas.

We have most of the Orchard range and they are fab. Knickerbocker glory, incy spider and humpty dumpty are great for a 2 year old to play with others.

Tummy ache! it could be by orchard but it is fantastic, misfits but alter the rules slightly.
Nothing odd with 2yo's playing board games ds was playing them at 2. But he wanted to be like his big cousin. The house that bob/jack built but replace the small dice with a jumbo sized dice. Giant dominos (picture best but i think toys r us do a number and picture version so you pick the side you want to play)
snap! ds loved snap but we played it non competitively. so when a snap occurs the cards just turned over and there is no winner. get both to yell say snap. can be built up to competitive when attention span long enough and big enough.

Theres tons if you dont might tweaking the rules to suit the needs of the situation/ages/concentration span.
eg ds(4 1/2) gets bored if we play 4 counters for ludo so we only play a max of 2 mostly.

Incy spider is good for that age as can do it with shapes on the dice or numbers
any of the lotto games

The simpler the game the better I think at this age - and nothing too fiddly.

We got DS1 Mousetrap for Christmas last year - big mistake, so hard to set up (not what you want on Christmas morning!) - we've just put it up in the attic until they're old enough to set it up themselves!

Fillyjonk - of course my ds is G&T I was just trying to think of something I could give the boys they could play together... they have tons of cars etc as their mum is a cm, so I thought something like a basic board game or similar to that might be nice for them. They probably have to share all their toys with their mum's mindees so it would be nice for them to have something to play together.

My 2 ds's aged 3 and 4 love popup pirate, the dotty dinosoar linked to by blairsnitch, a fab wooden 3d traffic dominos game will try and find the link but the cars stand up and you have to join them up to make a road layout - great for boys! The eldest loves frustration and a great posting game where you deliver letters as you travel round the board but ds2 doesn't get them yet.

fillyjonk - we are talking about the very early stages of board games - picture lotto/bingo, matching colours and shapes.
although I was surprised when dd2 took to them so well - we got them for dd1 really. adding in dd2 is nice as it gives a whole family activity

BlairSnitch - that is one of the ones my dds have - dd1 is 5 and dd2 is 2.7. they love playing it, and it has helped dd1 no end with her social turn-taking (she is autistic)

tbh that is why we are overrun with orchard toys games - they are a very good intro to the rules of playing games.

No 2 yo I have ever known can actually play board games. I mean, they can eat board games but not so much play them.
