Board games for 7 year old

Any suggestions for board games that would be interesting to both a 7 year old and adults?

Ds only has me to play with in the evenings so looking for board games to pass some time in the long evenings - ones that wont bore me or him

He has monopoly and cluedo junior. Are there others along these lines?

My son is 7 and his favourites are:

Quirkle
Blockus
Pokemon Monopoly (special edition, bought from eBay)
Monopoly Deal
Chess/Draughts (Smyths do a good value wooden set)

For Christmas I've ordered a few more unusual games to try from Zatu Games:

Machi Koro (supposed to be a mix between Monopoly and Settlers of Catan)
King of Tokyo
Sushi Go

I feel like we've exhausted all the usual games, so I think I'd going to start looking at more specialist games from next year.

Ds1 is 7, about to turn 8. Current favourites & Christmas purchases include:-

If there are ever more of you, Cluedo is also good. As my son has approached 8, he has really gotten into it, and can beat us!

Yes to Labyrinth (we've got the Harry Potter version), Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride. TtR Europe is more fun than TtR America because there are tunnels, but also a bit more complicated -
and last time we played, it took well over an hour, so don't start it too close to bedtime! We've also got Ticket to Ride London (which has buses instead of trains!) that had a smaller board and takes a fraction of the time to play - about 20-30 minutes.

We're also big fans of card-based games, which take up very little room to store and can be played quickly. UNO is still very popular, as are regular card games like pontoon and go fish. But we've also got several great games made by Gamewright - look up Sushi Go, Zeus on the Loose, Sleeping Queens and Go Nuts For Donuts!

My DS loves labyrinth too and Dobble. He also likes good old fashioned Jenga.

We are thinking of getting him some brain box games too, they have lots to suit individual interests.

Uno? My two play that for hours and make up new rules

"Christmas Eve" the board game is fun and christmassy and you can play it collaboratively or competitively

Rat a Tat Cat is great for two players. It’s sort of a cross between memory and bluffing and great to play with kids.

I also say labyrinth! Carcosonne popular here too. Dobble is quick and easy and you get pretty good at it; adults and kids often on a pretty level playing field once they've played a few times. Chess also popular especially if two of you.
We also liked catan but no one will play it with me anymore as I kept winning! I had to start cheating to not win...

My kids like exploding kittens which I'll play with them but it isn't for me.

I give a board game every Christmas Eve, as a family gift, I thought of pandemic this year - maybe a bit too close to the bone?

Ticket to ride is good but long and complicated.

Forbidden Island is a collaborative game. Not too complex.

My ds(6) loves board games. He's a real fan of labyrinth, gets on ok with Carcassonne, loves castle panic, another complicated collaboration game.

Have you heard about exploding kittens? You need this game!

My 6 year old loves takenoko... I also love it! It's a very pretty board game with nice pieces and art work and not too expensive. This would be my number one choice for this age!

He can give a relatively good game of catan, although he needs help picking spots and a bit with card management.

He tries at ticket to ride, but it's a bit beyond him planning his routes. His big sister though could do it when she was 7, but approaching 8, rather than only just 7.

For fun, if you have a few players... I love one night ultimate werewolf. Not a board game really and very silly but has us in hysterics and my 4 year old can play it. Also only takes a few minutes to play.

We have Scotland Yard as mentioned by another poster, you work as a team and a single player. So as long as someone capable is the single player and the 7 year old is on the team, that can work.

This thread has inspired me to dig out carcassonne (not played in years) and play it with the kids.

I love board games, and I have lots of very complicated strategic type ones that I play with dh. I cannot stand monopoly, so I train them up from quite an early age, to play board games I enjoy
