Just that really! I'd like to get one this year, can't afford to spend lots but don't want cardboard cut outs either! Looked on eBay but lots of rare/vintage type stuff, all too pricey. Thanks!

Thank you so much for all these replies and glad to see lots of other people have had some inspiration too! I know now I'd def like one with little pieces the dcs can play with, wood would be my 1st choice I think. Some gorgeous links, thank you!! Shopping time....Grin

I need, that is the one we have that I mentioned earlier. It is lovely. Keep an eye for it coming back, it's worth it!

I was going to recommend Traidcraft, which Tommy has already linked to.

I have a resin one we bought at our local garden centre, it is hardy enough for the children to touch, but we discourage playing with it.

I have a Balsa wood cut out hanging one, 2 beautiful glass ones to go on the Christmas tree, one is in a globe, the other in a stable shape.

We also have a knitted set which we put in an unused fireplace (Santa's favourite chimney Halloween Wink ) and DD2 seems to think it is hers - cue many shouts of "muummmmmm she's run off with a sheep agaaaaaaaaainnnnnnn" Halloween Grin

Cheers, Celtic. No, it's not, is it? Shock. Beautiful, though. I'm really tempted.

I have a lovely one I got at Salisbury Cathedral about 25 years ago which I guess was quite expensive relatively speaking at the time.

I also have a couple of small ethnic ones I got from Tearcraft. Not sure if they are still in operation as I got them a few years ago at a church I attended

Blimey not cheap! My DS had it as a gift from a family friend. I think we'll keep it forever though.

That sounds fab, celtic. Must see if they still have them.

I have a nice simple wooden one from Oxfam. It can't have been pricey or I wouldn't have bought it. Also have a wooden advent calendar from Lakeland where you take out a character each day and build the nativity. Ok there are more sheep and camels than strictly necessary but it's cute and DS loves it.

I have a lovely crystal one, handed down from my grandmother.

The only downside to the playmobil is that you have to buy the wise men separately....it is fab though.

Ooh I love that German one. Strange it is in English though.

We have a Willow Tree one, but this year I have decided to get a Playmobil one instead as last year I was terrified it would get broken.

The Willow Tree one will come out again in about 10 years. One day I will have the wise men to match.

I have loads (collect them Smile) and I get them from anywhere. Sometimes even the cheapy poundland type shops have them, charity shops another good bet.
www.traidcraftshop.co.uk/c-718-fair-trade-christmas-nativity-sets-.aspx - these are lovely

Playmobil. Not tasteful at all but you can take the staff/bible/ camel reins out of the hand of the angel/Joseph/Magi and replace it with a broom/mountain bike/camping mug. For the nativity lolz.

Okay, so I looked at the German Amazon site, there are some lovely ones that I am tempted by but this one is slightly baffling.

I got a nice one in Home Sense a code of years ago. It's the figures only but is quite nice.

I have a lovely Haba wooden one passed on from my sister who lives in Germany - they do Christmas well there. No idea how much it cost or where to get one though, sorry!

We put the figures in the Dcs advent calendar stockings and they add them as we get closer to Christmas. It's become one of our traditions.
