Christmas

I have 3 DS that only like computer games. Toys are sooooo last year, Mum. Ideas for presents that don't resemble toys?

DS1 12
DS2 10
DS3 8

...all are apparently 'too old' for toys. Computer games is the only bit of the Argos book they care about What else can I get them? They have bikes, scooters, skateboards, TV's, CD players... any ideas for boyish prezzies that aren't toys?

Young Driver lessons are very different, LOTF. I love the idea and thanks for letting me know about them!

Six years until DD's provisional but I'm determined she won't end up like me at almost forty with only a few lessons under her belt and a LIFETIME of letting the rules of the road / anything to do with cars fly over her head. I am an excellent passenger for this reason though Wink

I was looking at men's gift sets in Boots today- they had some Soap and Glory ones for men.(On 3 for 2)
I could just picture my DS curled lip if he opened it.

I have to chase him with a Sure for Men stick (he's not a whiffy teen yet, just getting into practice)

DilysPrice.....glad you still get a kick out of seeing your 'little ones' face. Hope I'll always have my 2 DS's close (not in a clingy way).

The Young Driver lessons are just something a bit different, it's going to be over 5 years until he gets his Provisional.(I am dreading it TBH)
I'm not sure about 15/16 yo taking the wheel, it seems a bit like it's pushing them too soon.
We find it really difficult finding birthday treats for DS- done parties,soft-play and home, cinema, outdoor adventure.

Lizzylou Max is the best boys' name- I'm biased though, my DS is Max. And the easy spelling was one of the deciding factors Grin (Though if he's got his boy-listening ears on, I call him Maxamillion. That gets his attention!)

DS2 has upped the ante now.

He has declared that he wants a new name for Christmas. As
"I don't like mine, I want to be called Max. I can spell it as well"

I must be the only Mom who is suggesting Scalextric sets, (more) Lego and DS's.

Hmm I love his name as well. Ingrate.

pramsgalore - I am with your DD on that one - I much prefer real books.

These pre-teen driving lessons... the website appears to be down. All I can find are articles about what a terrible idea they are Grin I disagree.

DD (9yo) is looking for Sylvanian Families/clothes/charms for her bracelet to be in her Christmas list.

Much easier.

DS (nearly 12) asked me this morning what he was getting for his birthday -Dec- and Christmas. I'm contractually obliged to dream up 2 lots (he doesn't want combined B/D & Christmas -fair enough) presents .
I don't know what games he's after, if I ask him it spoils the surprise but at least it's the right ones.
And a birthday day out that we can get to without worrying about the weather.

(I'm not fluent in the language of pre-teen boy)

DS 13 and 15 here. Yes the large pile of cheap plastic tat toys is replaced by a very small pile of expensive ones.
Suggestions -
DVDs
CDs
Gunness book of records
Novelty socks and boxers
Lynx
Huuuuge quantity of chocolate
Earphones for iPod
Cinema gift card
Wallet
Watch

titchy the system he's getting is about £99. Not overly extravagant imo.

Kindle was also on the list but I think it would end up discarded fairly quickly with my ds.

Remote control gyro helicopter from iwantoneofthose went down so well with DS that I had to buy one for DH as well!

Remote controlled toys are the only toys that my 10 year old would play with.

he'll be getting bits to customise his scooter, footie kit and something from Hawkins Bazaar.

A Nerf gun tip (sigh): get the bullets that DON'T have velcro ends. Those buggers really sting (and require innocent bystanders to wear eye protection and body armour). The plain or whistling ones aren't nearly so painful (rubs arm).
