My baby loses consciousness when she vomits

Has anyone heard of a baby fainting with bad vomiting?
My daughter is nearly 8 months old and recently had a stomach bug. She was retching so much she went unconscious and we had to call an ambulance. After the third trip to hospital the doctors just said it was a virus and that the severe vomiting caused her to have vagal episodes.

She's all better now, but worried she may lose consciousness everytime she vomits. I can't find any information about babies fainting.

my niece used to do this when she'd had a shock - ended up floating face down in the pool at Centerparcs one time (thankfully rescued in time) - it is very nasty and I hope your dd gets over it soon

How scary for you. Sounds like a good idea to do food diary.
My dd almost 2 used to do this if she hurt herself or when she cried (when they cry but no sound comes out iykwim) goes very blue and just flops. very very frightening. Thankfully she has not done it for some time.
Hope you find an answer.

Thanks anniemac. I think I will start a food diary and try to see if there are any patterns in case it happens again.
I will take her back to the GP and we are waiting for an outpatients appointment with a consultant in 6 weeks. Hopefully it will never happen again, but for now I am terrified it will happen again. It is so scary to see her completely unresponsive and worrying that the doctors at the hospital can't work out what the problem is yet.

My DD2 loses consciousness momentarily in response to shock and trauma. So if she stubs her toe or falls off something she will have what looks like a seizure. Her first one was at 12 months. She was checked out ny a neurologist who said he saw about one case a week. It's very common. Some children are so sensitive, it happens if they jump into cold water or even when they are told off!
It may be that. If you are concerned you could go to your GP and get her referred to a neurologist.
They are called reflex anoxic seizures. Anyway am just a numpty and not a doctor so I would take her to GP if I were you.

I can't link any particular food to these vomiting sessions. She has been completely breastfed with no problems - she rarely possets. Weaning has been ok, but she does refuse food sometimes and doesn't have the biggest of appetites.
How long was your DD unconscious for Anniemac? My DD was out for about 5-10 mins

gosh don't really know what to say.

I don't know what it would about vomiting that would cause loss of consciousness.

bumping for you

She has just had another over night stay in hospital with the same symptoms after a break of 2 weeks when she has been ok (only teething and a cold)
She was perfectly fine, then had a monster vomiting session, passed out in A&E, then was fine again. Doctors still can't tell me what is happening - so far they say virus or reflux, but can reflux suddenly happen at 8 months and cause a baby to faint?!

I don't know what to do
