4.5month old breastfed baby gone from pooing once or twice a week to 2/3/4 times a day?

Hi,

Just checking this is nothing to worry about. Baby used to go twice a week maximum, and never at night. Loved it 😂
Now he is going very frequently and has been for a few weeks. Is this likely to be a permanent change? More importantly is it anything to worry about? Poos themselves don't seem to have change except sometimes there is a smaller amount.
It's meant a lot more of those full outfit changes and poo-namis, and the main inconvenience is that he is now often pooing at night, making already very bad sleep, worse!

Life as a bfeeding mum 🤣. I hope you get better soon OP.

I'd recommend reusable nappies, so many less leaks 😁

Update: apparently the change is likely due to the antibiotics I'm currently on for mastitis!!

Maybe heck nallies are the right size etc as it shouldn't mattef how many poo's they do a day, they shouldn't all be leaking and needing change of clothes

Interesting. This happened at around the same stage with both my babies. Their poos also went a bit green for a while. I hated the night time poos, they made everyone miserable! With the first I assumed it was a lingering reaction to a mild tummy bug (GP agreed), but when it happened with my second as well I wondered if actually it’s part of a set of changes to the digestive and immune systems. At any rate, it lasted a few weeks with each baby but normal service did eventually resume.

Oh I do hope we have a similar experience! The amount of clothes changes we are going through is ridiculous 🙈 and his sleep is bad enough without the night time poos 🙃

Yeah I meant Heath visitor not midwife! Grin
Definitely speak to the health visitor (or even gp) hopefully all normal but it's great to be reassured. Never be afraid to ask is my motto.

Haven't been able to get to speak to the HV yet. Hoping to hear back from them tomorrow. Just dealt with another middle of the night outfit change hence the post now! 🙈

What does midwife say at your clinic? To me what you're getting now from your breast fed baby sounds more normal. My dc often did way more than 5 a day.
