UTI

Dd is 4. Diagnosed with UTI as presented with bloody urine while on hol. She has taken trimethoprim for 1.5 days but urine still black and cloudy. How long will it take for the antibiotic to work? She's fine in herself, no fever. But the black pee is freaking me out!

Was your dd unwell a few weeks ago? Did she has scarlet fever? If so, it could be a complication effecting her kidneys.

fredfredsausagehead1 · 20/04/2015 13:31

I agree with kidneys, sometimes a throat infection can trigger it!

Mummytogoldie · 20/04/2015 20:15

How did it go today? Dd was on nitrofuramtine prophylactic for 2 years and never had wee this colour x

Millionairerow · 21/04/2015 15:16

yes she has been referred. They cultured the last urine but there was no infection. Shoudl get a referral in 2-3 weeks so waiting game until then. Told to complete course of nitro....her wee is getting there though (though there was still blood and protein in the 'clearer' urine) - hence the referral.

Blimey I'd have thought they'd get her seen quicker than that! I'd there's no infection then something else has been causing it, which I would have thought should be investigated sooner than a few weeks time! Best wishes and do keep us updated Flowers

Mummytogoldie · 21/04/2015 19:52

Did they do blood tests to check kidney function x

backtowork2015 · 21/04/2015 22:45

have been following this as dd has had a raging uti for 12 days now which has been resistant to everything, amoxicillin first then trimethoprim, then augmentin, admitted to hospital tonight having iv cefuroxim as they think she's septic, she's been feverish and having rigors for the last 5 days. they heard a heart murmur this evening which they think the infection has brought on and should be transient. we're not having fun Sad

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 21/04/2015 22:51

Oh, poor you and DD, backtowork- that's shit Sad

Millionairerow · 21/04/2015 23:38

Yes backtowork, hope your lo gets to the bottom of it. My lo is well, though the last sample had blood and protein in it. Sepsis not good. Hope she's ok.

Dd had hospital appointment- urine still has blood in it but looks normal- suspecting staphylococcus aureus glomerulnephritis tho will take a few weeks to get results- not that they can do anything but monitor

Ah- glad she got a quick appointment. What tests do they do to diagnose that?

Millionairerow · 30/04/2015 11:55

Not sure, they had 5 little tubes they had to send away to various labs. They mentioned some sort of antibody test, assume to staph aur. Also mentioned kidney function - but not sure of others. Another sample of urine sent off too. Last 2 did now grow any bacteria. She had an ear infection before blood in pee so seem to think it related as a complication of that.

Well good luck and let us know what happens

backtowork2015 · 30/04/2015 22:15

thought id update too, dd had 48hours of iv antibiotics in hospital then discharged on oral antibiotics for 1 week, had an ultrasound of kidneys which showed expected inflammation and will have a "dmsa" scan on kidneys in August to check this has resolved. she's back to her bright little selfSmile

Millionairerow · 01/05/2015 14:43

I'm glad you lo is fine now backtowork. Nothing showed up on our ultrasound which is a relief. Appt on 1 June to go over test results.

Sooooo dd2 awaiting ped appointment. She's starting to have accidents again, being sick in car and had another cold! Ped appt 1 June. Should I go to Drs before then? These seemed to be warning signs last time....pee looks fine, clear etc. drs suspect post streptococcal glomeruli nephritis. Dd2 who s 5 had tests to conform or deny. Awaiting results....

OP posts:
InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 20/05/2015 09:29

Well, I'm surprised she hasn't had her results and been seen again already- they seem a bit lacklustre considering the possible kidney damage that nephritis can do. So yes, I'd go back, good luck

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 09/06/2015 13:14

Any news OP? How is DD now?
