Our DS is 6.5 years old. He lost his first tooth last month (front tooth at the bottom).

My worry is that that his mouth (gum) is bleeding when we brush his teeth and at night in bed (it's on his pillow in the morning). We can see it's bleeding from the gum around where the molars are breaking the gum when we brush his teeth. One each side (bottom left & right).

Check up not due but should we be taking him to the dentist or is this normal?

Teeth develop in a follicle which is like a balloon filled with fluid all round the tooth. As it moves through the gum to the surface it becomes very thin and if you look at the gum it appears bruise-like this is often referred to as an eruption cyst. The tooth eventually breaks through and the cyst can bleed. A friend son bled each time a tooth came through and they usually appeared overnight. It can be alarming but for some children it is normal.
Make an appointment with your dentist for reassurance.
