DD has very much enjoyed the Famous Five and Secret Seven; are there more adventure series like this that you'd recommend?

Oliver and the Seawigs is excellent. Not a series but definitely an adventure.

There are other lesser known Enid Blytons too. Like the '........of Adventure' series and the 'R mysteries'

Sophie and the Shadow Woods series by Linda Chapman is very popular in the school where I volunteer. It is much more up to date than Enid Blyton, I think Sophie has super powers and battles against creatures called such things as Boggarts.

Thank you for suggestions; I already have the Adventure enid Blyton series tucked away for Christmas. I loved Swallows and Amazons as a kid, but has it dated?

Lauren St John's Laura Marlin books are worth a look.

Thank you; I was trying to remember for what age Nancy Drew is suitable?

The CS Lewis Narnia books might be worth looking at.

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe is accessible enough for a 6 year old. The next books in this collection become gradually denser/aimed at older children but I would have thought not far beyond Famous Five in complexity.

Thanks Delphine; I agree with you about the increasing complexity, and therefore have been holding off; ditto Harry Potter. There seems to be a dearth of non-magic adventure series...

I always preferred the Adventure series to the Famous Five and Secret Seven. There is a mystery series too.

All 7 Worst Witch books have gone down very well here. DD1 is now enjoying Maisie Hitchins books by Holly Webb.
