Childbirth

How long between end of lochia and start of period?

I was bleeding on and off till about 4 weeks after giving birth, then I had about 10 days without any bleeding.

I'm now 6 weeks postpartum, and started bleeding again four days ago, slowly at first, and now very heavy and red. I haven't really had any period pain, could this be my period? I'm mix feeding, so not exclusively bf.

I decided to go to the doctor this afternoon, especially as my stomach was never checked at my 6 week appointment. Anyway he said it all seems fine, and I should be ok by Monday.

Glad I got it checked out to put my mind at rest, it seems that for the first period, anything goes lol!

Mine was v heavy from the outset then just stopped. Lasted 5 days.

If you are concerned get it checked out, you don't need any extra worries at the moment.

Now on day 6 of this "period" and it's getting even heavier. . At what point should I go to the doctors, or will it all settle down?

I have just had my first period 5.5 weeks after giving birth. Very very heavy and bright red, preceded by cramps.

I was told this was normal as I am not feeding.

My first post partum period (actually my first in four years ah the joy of breastfeeding and getting pregnant while doing so!) was very heavy. Apparently anything is normal for the first few periods after you have a baby

No bloody help to you I know but you are not alone in suffering heavy bleeding after having a baby.

I'd love to tell you it gets better too but my periods have now done a bunk again! They are probably waiting for it to be warm enough for me to wear white linen trousers

Omg - I can't even imagine being pregnant just now!

Slightly more worried if it's an overdoing it type bleed, as it is quite heavy , will see how things go for a few more days and hopefully all will settle down.

My mum was pregnant at her six week check up, very little surprising GPs!

It sounds like you might have just overdone it. Your insides are still settling down, lots of heavy lifting/exercise can make you start to bleed again if your cervix is still open.

There's no smell, pain, anything like that. I said to my doctor that I thought I had my period at my 6 week check, and she didn't seem at all surprised.

I have been much more active though, so I'm starting to doubt whether this is a heavy period or something abnormal.

Could be, or could be that you are doing too much (see daily tip on right for my recommendations on the subject ) If it doesn't smell offensive and you have no other symptoms it's probably okay to wait and see what happens in another four weeks
