i'm 40 wks on saturday, i have an appt with mw tommorow, will she give me a sweep or does that come after i've passed due date? it's my first baby and it has been in the cephalic position for last month. pretty sure the head is fairly well engaged too, 4/5 felt last appt 2 wks ago. what happens regarding induction etc if i don't go into labour soon?

I wish I had refused last time (or had at least been told that I had an option). All the babies in our family are late and fortunately this time my MW has agreed that my natural gestation probably is 42 weeks.

When DS was finally born last time (following induction) he had no signs of being overdue at all - no meconium and no wrinkly skin. I was heard to mutter "told you so" on more than one occasion......

have mentally prepared myself for 42 week pregnancy this time so it' s a bit easier to deal with the long wait -

midwife did my sweep about 40 = 5 but it didn't work asked to me left as long as pos to avoid induction and was takn in to be induced at 40 + 14.
They will make your apt for induction when you go for overdue check up.

our MW won't sweep until you are actually overdue. you'll be given appointment to discuss induction with a consultant a week or so after your due date. I mistakenly believed that I didn't have a choice about being induced last time - this time I know different and will be negotiating at least a few extra days (I am 40+5 at the moment)

Usually done past due date. Even then, it's up to you. Your MW will discuss induction with you, but they usually want to start when you're about 10 days overdue. Again, you don't have to!
