Bleeding again 4 weeks after birth?

Hey i had my baby 4 weeks ago this Sunday and Wednesday started bleeding again when it had disappeared. Sort of feels like im on my period, had few clots this morning and its fresh red blood. Spoke my doctor this morning who said it could well be my period returning which can be awful and prescribed me pills to lessen the bleeding. Just wondering if anyone else had had this?

@Oliviaa26 I think you should contact your hospital, midwife or GP.

Thought id update.

I went the out of hours doctor tonight cause felt run down and tired and the bleeding continuing to be heavy and the pills doctor gave me not making it ease up. Doctor was useless basically said because i have no temp, pulse is fine etc that it could be a period or just one of those things. Told me to go my own gp On monday for swabs.

I am over thinking it but i am terrified something is wrong.

No hun j haven't exercised i haven't left the house since Wednesday (apart from half hour for doctor tonight)

Surely ya can't get a period at 3 weeks and 6 days postnatal?

Hmmmm

Did you start back exercise by any chance? I only ask because I'm not a doctor but this happened to me. Stopped bleeding started back exercising and bleeding again. Gave myself a few days off and repeat the above. Definitely say it to your doctor. Congratulations on your baby

Glad to hear this. Not doubting GP's view. Now you've got pointers in case it deteriorates. Smile

It does sound about right for your period then. I wouldn't worry unless anything changes. You'll know it's your period if it goes away in the next few days and you get another one in a few weeks!

Thanks for replying. The doctor this morning said could be a period as im not soaking a pad (changing it every few hours) there's barely anything on the pad and its more brown on there but on wiping (sorry) its bright red blood. Like i have cramps but it feels like im on my period. I don't have a temperature and feel okay just abit worried. Like i don't want to go to a&e for them to say your fine your on your period if that makes sense

Hi gemgems,
You could have a secondary postpartum haemorrhage (fresh blood). Do you keep having to change pad, have developped a fever or there is a foul smell? You should call your GP (or triage if it's the middle of the night).
You could have retained products of conception or an infection (endometritis - that's what I had 4 weeks postpartum). It's more likely if you've had a retained placenta or an instrumental delivery.
Don't worry about bothering people over nothing. This needs to be investigated.

Ebf and mine came back at 4 weeks too it was rubbish. The doctors wanted to rule out infection or retained placenta and they said they couldn't give medication to reduce the bleeding so soon after birth. It made it even harder to get out and about as well. Take it easy OP and make sure you've got vitamins with iron in as that's something else to be aware of. If it gets really heavy I'd go back to the doctors as you can get post partum haemorrhage for a while after birth as well.
