How long did you stay in hospital after a c-section?

Hi ladies,

I have opted for an elective c-section because I am absolutely terrified of giving birth, the thought has been keeping me up at night and giving me nightmares for about two months! I'm just wondering how long I will be in hospital for after? It would be great to know how long other ladies have been kept in for. I am 24 and healthy in most respects, unfortunately just not mentally strong enough to give birth!

Would appreiciate any answers the mumsnetters could offer

Baby born 4.28am was out it it for a good few hours catheter out at 3 managed a wee within 30 minutes and straight in the shower discharged at 4pm the next day but I could of gone in the morning it just took so long for all the checks and for us both to be discharged

Had baby at 6am, catheter out at 6pm (begged them to do it earlier) then home the next lunch. They wanted to keep me in 2 nights as was protocol for an emergency section (it wasn't really an emergency, I just went in to labour before my section date). But I refused, and said unless they could give me a valid reason to keep me or baby in I was going home. They had to concede that there was no reason and so discharged me.

Emcs at 3am Sunday, out 5pm Tuesday. Would have been Weds but I insisted on going home.

Found the recovery absolutely fine.

Emergency section at 5am on the Friday following induction, home Sunday late afternoon - about 4pm or so.

3 days. Had them both on a Tuesday very early am and home Friday

24 hours on both occasions. I was begging to leave by the morning - out the door the moment they would let me.

I think the aim these days is 24 hours. All being well. With my first 3 days was standard.

C-section at 1pm on the Friday afternoon and went home Sunday night at about 8pm.

They did ask me if I wanted to stay another night as I had been struggling with breast feeding but I felt ready to go home.

A week, but like a pp baby developed jaundice so the last few days were for that rather than for complications with me.

Without that I think it would have been 4 days or so, which in retrospect was quite a long time given how fit and healthy I've always been! But I had a funny reaction to the drugs and then got a major UTI from the catheter so maybe just bad luck.

DD1 - emcs at 2 am Tues, home by Thursday lunch

DD2 - elcs at 12.20 pm Wed, home by Thursday 5pm

Was asked if I wanted to stay longer both times, both times flatly refused - wards were loud, hot and uncomfortable.

Policy at my hospital is one night. Obviously, I'll have to stay longer if something goes wrong.

Haha, yep it's great! sounds like they got stingy with it!!
Despite complications my c section experience was really positive.

red oh the morphine is amazing isn't it!!! apart from a baby the morphine is one of the best things 😂
I was so disappointed on my second section that the hospital had got really strict about administering

3 nights. There were complications and I wanted to stay in for the oral morphine!

ELCS 9.30. Stayed overnight. Home the following afternoon.

Was so desperate to get home I totally forgot we live in a block of flats with no lift! Was not loving the stairs

2 days both times for me, both elective. If all goes well 24-48 hours max, good luck.

10 days, ds was in nicu then scbu and I stayed with him.

3 days after longish labour and emcs. The aftercare was bad.

With my two planned sections it was two nights, just over 48 hours. My emergency one was 5 days as I was quite unwell.

Thanks raviolidreaming. It was the same birth and added in an unfortunate reaction to painkillers (vomiting post csection is not fun!) I've never been so tired. Reading this thread has reassured me not all csection recoveries are so hard. Just as well, since I think I I'll be having another one in 8 months!

Baby born 11am. Up and about a few hours later. Home the following afternoon.

3 weeks post section today and I'm driving etc and barely know I've had it -tbh I've felt 99% fine since about day 7.

Baby born 1am wed ....out Friday late morning.
I personally would advise staying in as long as possible if you can bear it!
