I'm in need of some food ideas for camping for DH, me and two dds (ages 8 and 5).
Really interested to hear what you folks take with you from home to use. We are going on Saturday for a week to Cornwall and need to start thinking about what shopping I need to get.
Thanks

when we wnet camping in may( and it rained the whole time) we had:
stuffed pasta with stir in sauce and a bit of salad on day one( after putting the tent up)
day 2 breakfast a big fry up
lunch crusty bread with cheese slices yoghurts and fruit salad( premade at home)
dinner: bbq with sausages chicken drumsticks potato salad( i boiled the spuds at home and brought them in a tupperware box, then chopped them up with some mayo and spring onions at the campsite)
hot chocolate and marshmallows at bedtime

day 3;
breakfast cereal juice and milk
lunch:soup and rolls
dinner: curry and nan: tin of chickpeas, tin of tomatoes, jar of curry sauce, red pepper, sweet potato etc
dessert; a big pineapple

it was made easier with having a gaz stove and a big table to use as a work surface.

If you are going to BBQ then you must take bananas and chocolate. Slice the bananas lengthways but leave a little at each end. Stuff with chocolate and lay on the BBQ. Wrap with foil if you have any but not essential - i usually forget. Keep turning until banana is cooked. Mash choc with banana and listen for the oohs and aahhs as people eat.

Yum.

Ooh that last recipe- we put marshmallows in between the chcolate buttons- yummy

We tend to buy fresh there apart from day one, when we might take nice burgers or our favorite- tuna marinated in cocnut and lime, then frozen so it defrosts en route.

Whilst there we eat mainloy fresh fish, etc with salads, breads, new potatoes (put on the griddle wrapped in buttered foil), etc. We always focus on seafood of near the coast.

I know it'd be great. I'm definitely getting one next year. If Tex is here we'll be camping galore

I did a nice one where boiled some eggs and left to one side. Frying pan with packet of that pre-done rice you can stir fry straight away. Used one with yellow peas and cinamon in. Then tipped in drained can of lentils.

Topped with the eggs halved. Plus tin of sweetcorn, no need to cook that.

Do lots of pesto pasta. Last time actually chopped peppers, onions at home. Cooked them up once there. Left to one side. Cooked pasta, added pesto, stirred in the veg.

Cholocate Hob Nobs to sandwich those BBQ's marshmellows. None of that faffing about with lumps of chocolate ;)

We akways take a jar of Sizzle n Stir Sauce & some frozen chopped chicken (use when defrosted or can take cooked - not so nice). Easy to make in a frying pan. A tub of 3 colour Pilau Rice is then fried/wok'd.

We go with friends so some do Korma, some do Tikka Masala. We share Nan Breads & Pappadoms. Really good fun - Camping Curry!

Does anyone take those big chests full of ice? I've just been to Texas and they take huge ones. Keeps stuff cold for 5 days or so.
