there is a site which I would like to make fellow mners aware of the issues before booking... and that reviews that aren't five star don't get passed Hmm by the management so basically nobody is aware of the problems. sigh.

We were on the delamere site earlier in the season and thought it was fab. In fact I'd put it on my list of sites to return to. I'm not so sure after reading this though

I tend to stick to caravan club sites as you know what you're getting. C&CC sites have always been inconsistent in my experience and definitely not up to the same standard. Not sure that they are that friendly either Grin

There are quite a few private sites locally that are really good.

lovely caravan club site is River Breamish in Northumberland. Five star site and lovely site managers. clean & well kept. In fact everything Delamere is not Grin

If you post it on ukcampsites they will post an independent review , I have left a poor review on there before now and they have published it.
Sorry to hear you had a bad holiday.

A few years ago was in the early stages of planning a long trip there, but blooming glad i didn't as visited Shell Island for the day and although it is in a lovely location and has some good views and interesting parts it really is quite grim in so many ways.

We went to a site near Gkenrothes. It was lovely but we were only welcome one night as the "caravan club has standards and our camper van didn't meet them" Shock

That's terrible! How can that be legal?! Shock

I would complain higher though, especially about how they handled the teenagers with knives Shock

we are sticking with tje caravan club Smile We were on a beautiful site (our regular haunt) last week. the contrast is huge.
After years and years of membership.in c&cc I think ours is getting cancelled.

I have done a review - but these are the ones who have everything out of five stars and moderate everything. They only publish 4 and 5 reviews Hmm It even says so in small print....but only when you have already clicked send in the review page. Disgraceful really. It was a lovely site til now.

Wow- I've only camped once in uk (Henley -amazing!)
And nothing like this. What a shame.
Hope the proper reviews stay posted.

Just looked on c&cc site and you can leave feedback. I would. I'd also put in a complaint and include the police reference number so they know you're not making it up. At the very least I'd want my money back!

Report
millimat · 30/08/2013 07:42

I'd complain directly to c&cc too. Do they have reviews on their own site? - the caravan club does.
Were the teenagers staying on the site? Scary stuff.

I'm sorry you had such an awful time, have you complained to the Caravan Club directly? I'm not a member myself so I don't know how involved they get.

The most recent two reviews on UKCS are negative, neither would inspire me to go.

Measuring how near a car is parked to a tent? Ha! I'd like to see what they make of how close I get the PruVan to our LoGear. It's almost become sport for me - dodge the guyrope Grin

Delamere in cheshire... have emailed mnhq to remove a 2009 (good) review and either delete it altogether or update.
It's really gone downhill in terms of upkeep, no pegs to mark pitches, no grass just mud due to overuse and poor maintenance, long grass (away from the over-used mud areas where they actually tell you to pitch, obv Hmm) standards have really dropped and most difficult of all, wardens were unable to work the computerised bookings system, charge correct fees or appear friendly Sad They patrol the site hourly, looking for things to comply with their long list of rules - mainly insisting on windbreaks being moved 30cm, children needing to ride a bicycle in a particular direction, measuring how far a car is parked from a tent (hardly good for a restful holiday?) and also making sure children do not use play equipment they've brought (although there is no play area either)
If you need to use the site, choose hardstanding if at all practical. Fewer issues re pitch quality, spacing and access.

During our stay, children were threatened by a gang of teenagers who had penknives out pointing at them, and the site wardens refused to listen and said it was nothing to do with them. we reported it to the police instead. It happened on their site, so yes there was action which they could have taken.

Avoid. There are a number of nice private/independent sites nearby. Such a shame that the previously lovely atmosphere on this particular site has been lost.

It is - I was as objective as I could be, and explained I was describing it as I found it but I covered elements such as the 'very, very smelly toilets' and insufferable signposts ordering everyone about. The whole review went in.

LickleLemon · 29/08/2013 23:28

Have you read back your whole review??? Is it ALL still there??

ukcampsite DO publish negative reviews - I submitted one after last weekend and gave it four stars and a less than glowing report, and it has been published.

I've seen critical reviews on UKCS for campsites and tents. I know that campsites have to pay to be listed on UKCS so imagine they have the power of veto. I have also seen that some campsites refuse to allow reviews (which is worse that having a bad review in my opinion).

Can you give more detail about what the issue is and maybe the collective wisdom of MN can put together a review that would pass UK Campsite's criteria?

I've seen critical reviews on ukcampsite too.
This is very odd.
OP name the campsite please.

I dunno though - I am sure there were some critical reviews on UK campsite about Eweleaze. And I am sure I have seen similar for other sites. Interesting about their mad banning policy!

I'm disappointed too, Pixel, I find cool camping a bit too limited and ukcampsite is always my first port of call...

Oh I'm disappointed now, I always look on campsite uk for ideas on where to go, I thought it was giving a true picture Sad. Although it might explain why this year we thought we were going to a 'working farm', expecting something fairly rural, and ended up next to a dual carriageway crammed in like battery hens Hmm Working farm might have been there somewhere, there was a distinct smell of silage could have been the loos and I saw one lone hen that had obviously escaped! Was probably behind the masses of keep out signs that we saw on a gate as we turned in. Not a site we will be returning to!

UKCampsite routinely edit people's posts and reviews and ban people without telling the reason!

There's quite a lot of people who used to post on that forum that can't access it any more (some for such bizarre reasons as asking what had happened to a frequent poster who didnt seem to be on the forum anymore).
